Due to the ability to transmit signals wirelessly, UK prisons have banned the Nintendo DS (along with some other video game systems). The reason? They fear that the devices can be used to plan a terrorist attack. Of course, should they actually research the system, they'd know that the wireless capabilities of the DS are severely limited. We can imagine terrorist attacks being planned in Pictochat, but we're sure the prison guards would notice someone lurking outside the prison walls with a DS.

What a luxury it must be to be able to play DS in jail! I can imagine a group of DS'ers in jail plotting to gang up on a particular individual..

Unlike america all things security in britain arent terrorist related. It is more likely this is to stop unauthorised communication between prisoners, organised riots etc. lets have an ounce of thought please

Why on earth would you allow your prisoners to do fun things like play video games? Prison is supposed to be a punishment, remember?

o0joshua0o - It's because people can't decide if prison is "punishment" or "rehabilitation" apparently. Really we need to (1) pick one or the other and stick with it or (2) have two different places, "prison" for punishment, and something else for re-education, er rehabilitation.
Sorry to go all political on you guys. ;)
