DS Daily: Demo satisfaction

We're glad that Nintendo
offers DS demos via the Wii's Nintendo Channel, but we can't help but feel that the service has been a bit of a let down so far. Week after week, we seem to be offered the same old (literally) training game demos, with perhaps an occasional title of interest showing up. Usually, though, it's
these titles that get removed quickly.
What are your impressions of the service so far? Do you think Nintendo has been doing a good job, or do you wish that the company would do more with it?

I don't want to wish to sound like a European rather irked by Nintendo, it does seem the norm, though, but the European Demos suck. They are terrible. Enough training, already.

I agree.
The European demos aren't very inspired choices at the moment.

Yeah (Mario Kart and Tetris aside) the European DS demos are so dull at the moment; four training games!?! Is that really necessary Nintendo? However, I just went on it today and they have added (probably by popular demand) Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, which is a step in the right direction. Even though I'm not hugely interested in that particular game, it sure as hell beats Sight Training!

Do more with it! Every DS game out from now on (especially first-party AAA Nintendo titles) should have a demo for release so we can try the game out. And release that demo a week or two before the full game comes out. That way we can decide before the game comes out whether or not we want to purchase it.
Xbox Live does it with most games -- even the ones that aren't first-party or AAA. It works really, really well.

I haven't even seen any demos available yet that made me want to give up the fairly small space required for the Nintendo Channel.

I liked the Crosswords demo (not fond of the other demos relating to that game, though), and Arkanoid was fun (should've put Space Invaders on it, though). I hope they change it up a little more, or at least take off some of the training games.

Just bought my DS recently, having only had a PSP since launch, and this is definitely one of the areas where the PSP trumps the DS. Demos are easy on the PSP and you don't need another console to get them, just download and transfer. And all of the demos released thus far are readily available on the internet, so I have easy access to them. However, on the DS, I don't have a Wii and I'm too lazy to find one of those DS Download hot spots, so I still haven't been able to play any demos. Unless there's some other way to get demos that I'm not aware of, these methods seem a bit weak.
(PS. I'm not trying to start a flame war here. Just stating the facts. I've actually been neglecting my PSP recently in favor of Pokemon Pearl.)

Don't worry about flame wars here, AFAIK the readers commenting here have been rather open-minded and matured.
I have to totally agree with you regarding the demos. I don't own a PSP, but I do know how easy it is for a PSP to download demos. Whereas for a DS, I've never actually taken time to find a Download Spot just to try a new game (I'm lazy=P)
I do hope Nintendo improves on these in future handhelds and consoles...
P.S I play Pokemon Pearl too! Too many Diamond players around XD

The downside to the PSP is that you need a memory card to store those demo's; not much of a pain for most of us, but there may be others out there that may not be able to afford a bigger storage card.
Many GameStop's have DS Download Stations but are usually outdated.

Am I the only one that deleted the Nintendo Channel to save some space? It's not worth the blocks it uses...

We'll see if it catches on, currently it's not very useful.

How about special events for games like Pokemon? Instead of relying on Gamestop or Toys 'R' Us, which either aren't around most of the nation or aren't participating in those events, how about using the Nintendo Channel to offer rare Pokemon or similar special events?
