Friday Video: Stretch it out

We thought this nice, relaxing yoga video (which showcases Let's Yoga) might be a great way to start off the weekend. After all, it's been a long week. You're probably tired, and maybe a little stressed. Perhaps you're planning to go out this weekend. Maybe there will be some drama, or drinking, or hey, both. Maybe you'll play games until your arm or back cramps (damn you, Metroid Prime Hunters!). Maybe you just need a break. But we have to warn you: if you do any of the moves in this video without buying Let's Yoga, you are officially a yoga pirate.

Konami's yoga trainer released last fall in Europe, and 1UP blogger onela has a great writeup here (and is the source of the video as well).

From Face Training and yoga to the world

We couldn't help but giggle when we saw this article on "facial yoga" that described it as the hot new craze. It's certainly not new to us DS hipsters; after all, we've already got a game dedicated to stretching and firming our faces, and since the practice is apparently the latest it-exercise (despite being around for years, much like regular yoga), it seems likely that Otona no DS Kao Training may sweep in on the heels of Let's Yoga and hit the United States.

Of course, then the real question becomes: will Nintendo (and others, like Konami, the company behind Let's Yoga) start to change the way they advertise the DS in the United States? We can't help but wonder if it seems unlikely; after all, we still have no official "face" for Brain Age beyond our favorite disembodied head, and it's rare that we see advertisements for our favorite piece of hardware on the scale that we see those for the Wii.

Let's look at Let's Yoga

The graphics for Konami's Let's Yoga aren't anything special, and we don't care. They don't have to be; so long as the menus are readable and the poses discernible, this "game" has everything we need -- and more. Where's the more come in? From the screenshots up at IGN, the title looks very detailed. Now that we can read the menus and understand what's going on (a luxury we didn't enjoy with the Japanese version), Let's Yoga is pretty impressive.

So far, there's no firm date for Let's Yoga in the U.S., but IGN has a 2008 release predicted. The title hit last month in Japan, so we hope to have a chance to get bendy by February. Those breathing exercises should be a great way to combat the chill, but if you're on uncarpeted floors, we definitely recommend a mat.

Wii Fit gets a handheld cousin in Let's Yoga DS

If seeing Wii Fit at Nintendo's E3 press conference got you all giddy, then you're probably going to be happy to hear that Konami is bringing it's own, similar title to the DS. Dubbed Let's Yoga DS, the game tries to do exactly what you might think: teach you yoga. Through the software, you'll learn all kinds of poses and breathing techniques that will help you further yourself as the avid yoga enthusiast.

There are plenty of screens for the game over at DSX-2, should you be so inclined to check them out.

Konami to announce something new (yet old) at Leipzig

In addition to several other titles, Konami has announced that they'll debut something (mostly) new for the DS at Leipzig -- a remake! That's right, the remade game isn't just for Square Enix anymore, though it was starting to seem that way. Konami's planning on showing off an all-new take on one of their "classic arcade smashes," which leaves the door wide open for speculation. We're guessing it won't be something in Konami Arcade Classics, since they'll be showing that at GC already, as well as Let's Yoga (we approve) and Steel Horizon.
