What is the Spectrobes Collector's Edition?

Tucked away stealthily among this week's releases was Spectrobes Collector's Edition. We thought it was pretty baffling that Disney would decide to rerelease an eight-month-old DS game now, and we also wondered what exactly was in this edition to collect.

Siliconera reports that it's the game plus all 38 of the Code Input punch card things. The original game came with a few, but the rest seem to have only been given away at various events and promotions. In other words, they're a total pain to acquire in any other way. If you want to play Spectrobes, you may as well pony up the extra $10 (the original package is down to $20 now, and the CE is $30) and get the cards.

The official press release (after the break) mentions that the package includes two exclusive Geo cards and a mini-guide. Seems like a good deal for people who were previously on the fence about Spectrobes. Or you could just wait for the sequel!
SPECTROBES COLLECTOR'S EDITION VIDEO GAME NOW AVAILABLE FOR NINTENDO DS

Popular video game will now be available with all 38 Code Input Cards plus two exclusive Geo cards

Disney Interactive Studios has announced that Spectrobes Collector's Edition for Nintendo DS™ is available in stores today. Spectrobes Collector's Edition includes the full version of the popular anime-style action and role-playing video game, Spectrobes, along with all 38 Code Input Cards and two exclusive Geo cards which enable players to unlock exclusive content. The special edition also includes a Mini Guide from Brady Games which includes statistics on all of the Spectrobes in the game. Spectrobes, released in March 2007, was the first original intellectual property from Disney Interactive Studios and has since shipped more than 800,000 units worldwide.

Spectrobes Collector's Edition allows players to take on the role of planetary patrol officer Rallen. Players must collect mysterious fossilized creatures known as Spectrobes in order to complete missions and defeat enemies. To collect Spectrobes, players use the Nintendo DS stylus and touch screen to excavate the creatures as fossils, awaken them using the DS microphone, and evolve them into more powerful Spectrobes. Spectrobes Collector's Edition also includes multiplayer functionality that enables players to battle one-on-one, participate in a tournament with up to 16 friends, and exchange items and Spectrobes via local wireless connectivity. Players can also participate in an interactive community where they can upload game results and stats, view leader boards, earn badges, and more via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

For more information about Spectrobes, please visit www.spectrobes.com.

Spectrobes Collector's Edition is rated "E" for Everyone and is now available at retail stores for $29.99.

That was a fun game at first, and I thought it was a winner, but then you couldn't find the dang cards and the later levels became tedious.
