Sometimes, you can love a game while secretly hoping that the main dude(tte), often your avatar, dies in some horrible fashion, never to return, while anyone else steps in to take over. It's the annoying hero syndrome, and while it isn't that frequent in gaming, it often strikes at the worst moments (like in otherwise awesome games). Worse, sometimes it can happen in the middle of an otherwise decent franchise. Sometimes it's just a sub-character (whew), but not always.But enough with the details. What playable characters that you've been stuck with have you hated?

Kyle Hyde.
Kyle was a bitch to Iris. Besides being rude to Iris, Kyle doesn't even tell her the identity of the painter (Dunning Smith), after Iris confides in Kyle about fulfilling her dying sister's last wish.
And Kyle is dumb as a door knob ... I mean come on! Every character in Hotel Dusk is the exact opposite of their initial impression/public persona. Why doesn't he realize this??? How did this guy pass the police exam???

Getting a little annoyed at FFIV now, most of the characters seem to like trying to kill themselves. They succeed an annoying amount of the time.

I never hated Big the cat at all, I dunno why everybody cringes with him.
Some really annoying would be the female Starfox characters. They are a solid mold on stereotypes and cliches. Amanda frog for example, she is PINK with a yellow BOW and huge EYELASHES.
Also, I am sorry FFVII fans but,Cloud Strife himself was pretty annoying, I mean he had a very autist attitude for being a hero and mainly a grounbreaking one in another aspect for SquareEnix's future titles. I liked FF6 for example for the characters having much more personality.

Hm, I wouldn't really think of Cloud as annoying. Non-likeable, maaaybe, but annoying? Nah. That's more often reserved for Squall, inside whose head you're bearing witness, and thus seeing how torn-up this guy is [making himself], that level of perception might bugger. Really, I'd've expected Tidus to be mentioned. I like the guy well enough, but no one can deny that J. A. Taylor's voice work can, and will, be grating (at times?). Did a better job of things in FFX-2, though, and I'm hoping he'll keep with that not-technically-painful-to-listen-to streak in DFF.
I wish the main character in the first-gen PKMN games would fucking RUN. Yeash, so po-dunk... Really, I'm not about to probe my mind for someone truly annoying (though 18-Volt is pretty iritating to look at, with 9-Volt carrying similar traits).

Apollo Justice. I have nothing against his actual character--he's somewhat of a Phoenix Wright clone in personality, after all--but what his insertion did to the well-established PW storyline was completely unnecessary and, in my opinion, all but ruined the series.
Gyakuten Saiban 5 had better have Maya in it and it had better have a wedding by the end of the last case. If you're going to destroy the characters and their lives for no good reason, at least have an ultimately happy resolution. If it's just that rueful chessmaster hobo Phoenix pulling the strings from behind the scenes again with Maya, Edgeworth, Gumshoe, and the others living similarly depressing and lonely lives elsewhere, I'm not sure I can take it.

Raiden from metal gear solid... Although he did get significantly more metal in the fourth one, both figuratively and literally. Also MGS 4 did allow us to live out the fantasies of seeing Raiden brutally mauled.

I hated Raiden until quite near the very end of the game. My entire perspective of the character shifted at that point and I actually found myself asking my friend if he thought they'd have a short bit of MGS4 playable as him.
I just finished the game this year, so maybe that changed things a bit. Although he is a bit of an idiot.

Um...hm...Squall?! *fury wells up inside* Only time I liked Squall was when he was crushing baddies in battle. That's it. The rest of the time he was just too obtuse for me to deal with him. (Cloud falls in that category too, but I kinda grew to like him a tad.)
Everyone else is a mild dislike, but Squall takes the cake for my hatred.
