Justin loaded up a level on YouTube, stuck an earphone up to the mic, and the D3 rep started the Sound Load, but to no avail. "Transfer failed," "Too quiet," "Too loud." That doesn't mean it's a finicky feature, necessarily, just that it's not the ideal feature for the loudest place ever. Owners of the Japanese version haven't really reported problems. I have full faith that it works great in regular noise situations.
I asked the D3 rep if there would be downloadable stages on the US website, and he told me that they were planning a YouTube channel. Furthermore, I was told that Japanese stages would work in the U.S. build.

Nah, it's a finicky feature. I've had the JP release since it came out and I can never get the levels to load properly.
I still make an attempt every now and again but no dice and trust me; I've tried every combination of headphone to mic configuration that I could think of. I even tried scrubbing the audio up a little in Pro Tools. Nothing works.

Wow, with Pro-Tools? Sounds a little extreme. I bought the game a week ago and haven't been able to put it down since. 3 people I work with have also purchased the game from merely playing the Tutorial.
As for the 'sound load' feature, I've had it act a little finicky in certain places, like the loading dock at work (loud) Sometimes it's finicky loading certain levels, but in a quiet room or office a pair of ear buds are all you need. Youtube has become a wealth of added content for the game. Stay tuned for Bay Area Themed Bangai-o levels!!
