No, I'm not buying it.
Unless my current DS has a mysterious accident, I don't foresee myself buying a new one. Especially for a poxy camera/mp3 player.

To put simply: No.

I JUST bought my DS Lite. There isn't much that is going to make me buy a new DS just because it has a camera and can play music. My cameras and ipods do a FAR better job at their respective jobs. Keep consoles as consoles.

I highly doubt that there will be a new DS. And if there is, I'm not going to buy it because the DS is just fine the way it is. It does what it does best, it plays games, that's all it really needs.

If indeed it is true, and it is like a PSP... there is no way i'm buying it.
If it just had improved graphics, nearing that of a gamecube, odds are i'd consider it.
The whole 'camera and music' thing seems a little too pointless to me.

Saying that, the one thing that owns about the DS is the fact that it is actually a CONSOLE, and not a multimedia hub :/.
That's the way I like my consoles - to be consoles, not to do everything.

I bought my DS lite about 3 months ago... And it is VERY expensive here in Brazil... No... I will not buy the new one... My R4 does the job playing mp3, videos and games (of course!).

What a joke. It seems like both Nintendo and Sony have found a cash cow in small "token" upgrades that nobody wants (brighter screens, smaller hardware excluded) to existing hardware. Now we understand the reasoning of an 8-10 year life cycle... To allow console companies to milk the old cow over and over and over again...

Short answer: No.
Long answer: If it's just going to be a DS with lame add-on gadgets to compete with the iPhone, no. The DS's 3D abilities were underpowered at launch, it's in desperate need of a complete overhaul, not new gimmicks and 2 more years of shovelware.

I'm pretty sure we don't have anything close to the full story as of right now, and Nintendo is not so stupid as to announce new hardware right before the biggest shopping season of the year no matter what region. It's almost like Sony "leaked" this to Nikkei, not someone at Nintendo.
But regardless, no, I don't expect to be buying a new DS with any hot new features at any price between now and the end of 2008.

I'm planning to get my daughter a DS for her birthday in late Oct. All this rumor/leak does is make me want to wait till after the press conference this week on the hope that we'll see a price drop on the current DS.

I just got my DS as well - not likely that I'll be upgrading, especially if the major changes are a camera and the ability to play music. Don't need either of those right now. Perhaps when the price drops, I'll consider it. Of course, I envision this rev allowing connections to any modern wireless network and that would be a "nice to have" feature. It's not worth $200, but it would be nice to have. Be even better if there were some form of firmware upgrade for the current DS models, but still....

Even if someone doesn't personally want it, the level of negativity regarding the redesign seems pretty over the top. I guess I just underestimate how fickle people are--in every redesign thread we've ever had we get a lot of people asking for larger screens and an SD slot. When the prospect of these two things (and more) finally appears, we get a deafening chorus of HELL @#$%ING NO. Go figure.
Anyway, I know I said I'd purchase it in the thread where the rumor was first circulated, but I don't know at this point. I knew I either wanted to upgrade to a Lite or get a PSP within the next few months, so I have to weigh the costs and benefits of each. The former is a more comfortable way to play games I already own, the latter would basically just give me the ability to play Dracula X Chronicles, Jeanne d'Arc, LocoRoco, and Crush. Because neither option is particularly convincing, if the additional features in the new DS turn out to be better than expected, it could sway me in Nintendo's direction.

Unless it effects the gameplay of my games
I see no reason to buy it.
I already have an Ipod and digital camera that work fine.
Its a bit of a disappointing upgrade.

If its not a new "console" then no.
However, all the money i made from my summer jobs (less gas expenses to get to those jobs) guarantees that i am able to keep up with this holiday season otherwise.

Like some others, my DS lite is less than 6-months old and I'm having a blast with it. I probably won't buy any new DS, but that's also assuming this isn't a entirely new DS but just a new DS lite model (ie, will still take the same carts, etc).
Of course, even if it is the next-gen of DS, I probably won't get it. The DS has and should last me for quite some time. And with gazillions of owners out there, I doubt support for it will dry up anytime soon.

Same here, I want a lite, but if I get it now im afraid the new one will come out right after that adn I will have wasted money. But lets be real, the camera will be no better than a cell phone camera, and most I have an R4 for music.
