Polish developer NIBRIS has been in the news before, flashing screens from their forthcoming Revolution shooter, Raid Over the River. At that stage, they didn't have a publisher yet, but it looks like things have improved for them. Not only have they secured a deal with an undisclosed publisher, but they've also let out that the game is being completed "exclusively for the Nintendo DS and the upcoming next-generation Revolution console". (emphasis added for dramatic, heart stopping effect). While the news of a new DS shooter is appreciated, the fact that it's being developed for the Revolution as well has me intrigued. Since both systems represent Nintendo's off-beat drive for innovation in the games industry, does this signal some interconnectivity between the two systems? Could a game's control system be that easily adapted to move between the DS and the Revolution? Perhaps a Wi-Fi link up between the two versions of the game could yield some interesting results? How many more completely speculative questions could I possibly ask? Two more? Maybe one more? When does this end already?

OMG! STOP THE PRESSES. I want to make a game for Revolution! Here's a screenshot! http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/images/projects/galacticdream_3.jpg wtf zomg!111
(NOTE: This is me saying how dumb this rumor is. Oh, and the screenshot is from a demo of a certain very nice 3D engine.)

It's not a rumor. :) This developer has been in the news because they're the only ones releasing concrete information about their Revolution project. The current build of the engine is actually running off a PC (since they don't have Revo dev kits yet), but the game was intended as a Revolution exclusive. This post was meant to point out that Raid over the River is now a DS title as well.
Also, we don't actually have any presses to stop over here. I hit Blake with a stick as he passed by though. It had a similar effect.

Wow, was it a newbstick? ;)
Yeah, this game looks cool. Been missing those shooter games, thats why I haven't sold Ikuraga yet.
Still, be wary, I'm sure the Rev. is to be strong to a decent enough degree, but they are running this on a seperate system without really knowing what the Rev. can do yet. So, they could be doing something beyond the Revolution power.
Still, lets hope for the best. :D

Someone, I think at 1Up, had the great suggestion that a Rev version of Trauma Center could interact with the DS, since the DS is The Perfect Interface for gaming surgery---like, you'd play through other stuff in game, and then, when it was time for surgery, you could either use the Rev controller, or pull out your DS (which would connect wirelessly?) to make the cut. I hope they do something like this---it'd be great to see these two weird kids of the gaming world doing gymnastics together.

As it is, this appears to be an intriguing enough game. I'd buy it.

The DS is really just killing me right now with its sudden leap in awesome. I'll probably want this for both systems.

This game is a hoax. I have seen nothing but Photoshopped screenshots of Age Of Empires 3, made to look like River Raid.
Firstly, these guys would have to license the IP for "River Raid". Calling your game "Raid of the River" doesn't make it unique. I couldn't make a game called "Life of the Half" with a character called "Freeman of the Gordon" and expect to get away with it, could I?
Secondly, the only dev kit they seem to have consists of AOE3 screenshots and Photoshop.
If these guys can get away with this, and get some venture capital, then good for them. The entire dot.com industry in the late 90's consisted of Photoshopped apps and Powerpoint slides with no product behind them. But it is a big leap for them to go from creating some dodgy concept art to actually creating a game.

Well, Ludwig, it's true, it's not a rumor. But let's think about this, really - It's a no-name developer from Poland that would like to do a project for Revolution. That's all fine and dandy. But here's the thing. They have no connection to Nintendo whatsoever. No dev kits, nothing. They apparently asked NoE for one and were rejected. Given the pure amateurishness of the project (Name of game, unheard of developer, extremely simple website that has now run out of bandwidth) I doubt you'll ever see this on anything other than a PC.

That's certainly a possibility. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Keep in mind, however, that they were without publisher until just recently, and that would explain why they came off as amateurish. Hopefully some cash will help them improve. :)
