The rumor mill has it that Nintendo will release a newly designed DS on Januray 16. Lik-sang writes: "Late last year Reggie Fils-Aime, chief marketing manager for Nintendo said how they've been looking into re-designing the DS ever since its launch, and last month Japan's Famitsu magazine teased us all saying they knew a current Nintendo console is getting a revision soon... here at Lik Sang too we have received word a couple of days ago from a Japanese contact stating Nintendo will have a formal announcement of the re-design on Jan 16th."Counting in days: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

Better now than later, I suppose. I got my DS during Boxing week. At least I'll be able to return it and get the new revision. :)

I'd definately pick up a second DS if this were the case. I just hope it's done right, I don't care when it comes out. I was personally expecting a new design to debut around E3 sometime. But now makes sense, they're selling like hotcakes.

I'm only buying it if it's a real improvement.
Not just a cheap makeover that's not much different like the SP, but at least a new style that looks incredibly good. And hopefully some hardware improvements, like an ethernet port or bigger, better styluses.

I'll definitely get a newly designed one, although I don't think it needs a redesign. I've dropped my DS 3 times and it's escaped with just a few dings. It's built like a tank and I like that.

Man, wouldn't it be cool if there was something like the DS micro?
The micro is awsome! I thought it was so pointless and stupid until I borrowed one of my friends for a minute, it was soooo cool!! Man, now I really wan't one, but I'll wait and see what's up with this new DS before I make that desision.

Well this could definitly be true in concurrance with the shortages. They would have made less of the ones we know so the new ones could be made.

Nintendo has always been a leader (to me) in improving gameplay. I can't wait to see what they come up with! Even though I got a new DS for Christmas a few weeks ago, a new DS only sounds necessary. And we all know they will satisfy our aesthetic desires for a sleek sexy machine.

Am I the only one that gets cramps from playing games on the DS? I love playing Advance Wars with the stylus, but when I play Mario Kart I get bad wrist cramps. The shoulder buttons are awkward to hit while still on the gas, and the gas button is too far to the outside. I hope the redesign addresses this issue. If so, I'm in.

I would like the ability to plug a Gamecube controller into the DS (maybe through a GPA port adaptor?) Powersliding boosting a lot in Mario Kart DS gives me major cramps in my hands almost immediately.

Yea, I definately think that the DS needs a makeover. The control pad needs to be a bit more "analog" and they should turn the DS into a media player. I would only buy the new DS if it had new features and/or it is MUCH more comfprtable that the old version.

Any idea what going to be released tomorrow, the 16th of January?
My son is waiting for the DS graphite (black) to come out (other son has the blue unit) and I was just about to put in an order at a Japanese on-line company for this color, at a premium price, when I learned that something was imminent.
Any way to find out what's happening, even if it's the U.S. release of the graphite unit???
Thanks, everyone.

i think a makeover is a good idea in most aspects. the DS is kinda clunky and i wish the face buttons where just a tad bigger. it should b a little more smooth around the edges (it does feel weird when trying 2 power slide in Mario Kart DS).
but even if they "announce it", we probably wont c it 4 a while. i mean releasing this close 2 Revolution might not b the best idea. you really dont want your own consoles competing. especially since the DS is already competing with the GBA in a sense.
