It doesn't take a genius to see that Hudson is now cashing in on Nintendo's massive success with the Brain Training series. They've just announced a trio (which means "3", I'm told) of Japanese DS puzzle games slated to hit the system on 23 March at a budget price. Stop me if you've heard this before: A jigsaw puzzle game, a crossword puzzle game (with handwriting recognition) and a title filled to the brim with Sudoku puzzles.Now, as much as everyone loves jigsaw puzzles, crosswords and Sudoku (which is included in the upcoming Brain Age), splitting them up into separate titles may result in some unwanted and repetitive brain straining. You see, Nintendo's brain game provides a lot of variety in its challenges and makes a good attempt at keeping things fresh. Hopefully Hudson's games will provide tons of different game modes and not just the opportunity to complete a hundred jigsaw puzzles in a row.
That being said, these games do have a clear advantage in the on-screen helper category: The little panda thing doesn't seem nearly as creepy as a floating professor head.

The main disadvantage of the Brain Age sudoku functionality is that there are only 100 puzzles. I don't know about Puzzle Series Vol. 3, but there are two GBA titles with more - just-released Sudoku Fever (unlimited) and next month's Dr. Sudoku (1000). If all you want is sudoku - and I personally don't care so much for doing 2nd-grade arithmetic on my DS - then Brain Age is a really bad choice.

Well, considering that I would never be able to memorize 100 Sudoku puzzles, I think Brain Age has more than enough to satisfy me. Plus the DS's touch screen would (hopefully) make entering the numbers more natural than on the GBA.
Either way, there seems to be no shortage of budget puzzle games.
