Phantom Hourglass pushed back?

Reports are rolling in that Link's latest adventure on the DS has been pushed back. Way back past the reaching arms of year 2006 and on into the future, almost certain to be an apocalyptic one, year 2007 is the date that is now when most are expecting to see The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass available on retail shelves, undoubtedly to be eagerly wrestled free from its noisy prison upon placement on said shelf to the quiet, almost romantic sanctity of your domicile. We're fairly sure you'll have some candles lit.

This news stems from reports that the title was not present during the recent San Diego Comic-Con. When asked, the rep supposedly stated that their presence was to showcase DS titles available for 2006, implying once again that we would not see Phantom Hourglass until 2007. Stay glued to DS Fanboy for future updates as we await official word from Nintendo on this matter of great import.

1. This would make sense, even if the title is nearly complete. Nintendo said they like to space out their blockbusters and with big names like FF3, Mario 3V3 and Yoshi's Island 2 out this holiday, it probably would be better to save the title for an early next year release a la Metroid Prime Hunters.

Not too bad considering all the big titles due this year. What's the word on diddy kong racing?

2. Ahhh...Delays...

It just wouldn't be Nintendo without 'em!

3. This is probably a good idea. More time for Nintendo generally means a better game for starters, and moreover how are we supposed to be playing to Zelda adventures simultaneously (GC/Wii vs DS)? I'm still trying to figure out what I plan to do about Final Fantasy XII coming out on Halloween.

4. You just can't have major Zelda games without delays can ya?

5. Nintendo can go screw themselves if they think I'm gonna wait an extra year for another Zelda game to come out.

6. Hopefully they don't postpone it so long that a new handheld is coming out and then release two versions... Not that they've done that for any other zeldas.

Joking... joking! At least... I HOPE that's not the case.

7. Sorta disappointing. I was looking forward to this game a lot more than Twilight Princess. I was hoping I could pick up this game in November and wait until some time next year to get TP.

8. "Ahhh...Delays...

Yup, Nintendo is just like Blizzard in that respect. They take forever, but when it's done, it's incredible.

9. I thought it odd for two Zelda games to come out so close together.

I still want it now!!! NOW! NOW! NOW!

j/k...I can wait I'll have LOZ:TP on Wii to satisfy my urges.

10. "Yup, Nintendo is just like Blizzard in that respect. They take forever, but when it's done, it's incredible."

I at least have to give Nintendo props for actually announcing games, and showing some footage...

Unlike Blizzard: who MIGHT be working on Diablo 3, and POSSIBLY Star Craft 2...

Handheld indeed... how about the two versions of "Link's Awakening"? GB and GBC versions w00t. At least the GBC version had an extra dungeon, which, despite claims, you *could* (with much trouble) do on a non-color Gameboy...

13. oh sure, first comment don't go through, then when ya put it back, it shows the new one, then you refresh and it shows both again.. accidental double post, either way I wanted to comment on the people saying "wouldn't be Zelda without a delay"..

Better to have a game delayed than the core disc-reading component of the system.. *cough*blu-ray...*ahem*..

Posted at 3:52PM on Jul 26th 2006 by Vincent

14. Come on guys lets get real. Delays are common for everybody it's not a Nintendo or Blizzard thing. The number of games that get delayed is probably greater than the number of games that don't get delayed.

Half of the Xbox 360 games that I have been waiting for are delayed. Shoot the PS3 has been delayed.

You can bet your ass that the games that don't have release dates have been or will be delayed multiple times internally before they ever even release a date.

Anyway back to the topic. I agree that this is probably a smart move. There are a lot of great DS games coming out this year. When next year comes and there is a lack of new games you'll be happy when Zelda comes out trust me.
