Pokemon Diamond/Pearl Wi-Fi details

Some details about Pokemon Diamond/Pearl's battle and trading systems have been revealed for all of you chomping at the bit needing your daily Pokemon fix.

The Global Trading system sounds like it would be a worldwide type of thing but unfortunately its not. It's regional only. But, it is a great way to barter Pokemon. Trainers type in the Pokemon they are looking for and are shown a list of trainers that have that Pokemon in possession. They can approach a chosen trainer and either have their deal accepted or rejected.

The Battle Tower is pretty interesting and the best thing about it is that you are friend code free! Using the Battle Tower does not require you to use friend codes. You only have to use them in the basements of Pokemon Centers. You will use voice chat to communicate and talk all the trash your heart desires. In the Battle Tower your team is uploaded and only those trainers around your level will be chosen to battle with you.

Pokemon fans get ready! Sounds like Diamon and Pearl are going to be larger than life.

"...the best thing about it is that you are friend code free!"

Like most other wi-fi games. I've never had to enter anyone's friend code to play any DS game online. (Though I don't own Animal Crossing.)

The problem with the friend codes is not that they exist, it's just that they are unique to every game, and they're random numbers rather than something easy to remember like usernames or email addresses.

It'll be interesting to see if this reinvigorates the Pokemon franchise. It's not like it was ever dead, but a well-balanced online component could add a lot of replay value.

Looks like nintendo's done a 180-degree turn from Prime, where they only let voice in the lobby and among friends, to "protect privacy" or something. I'm glad that Nintendo has changed their mind about that issue.

And here I am thinking that trading would require friend codes.

Now I'm gonna make a lot of people happy when I trade them a copied legendary (from the Pokemon Emerald cloning glitch, look it up). Actually, scratch that.

They're gonna have to work for it like everyone else!

The offline trading sounds like it would help a lot, for finishing collection of pokemon.

this game gets more and more appealling by the day. this should be uber-popular even more-so now since all the closet pokemon fans can get into the battle thing now.

i know i used 2 have the hardest time trying to find someone to play against in this game. i only got to play against my little brother and cousins when they were around. now there will always be someone to play against and the replay value goes sky high.

Pokemon battling online... enough said. One of these versions is surely going to be in my DS, unlike the GBA games, which didn't appeal to me that much.

This game is gonna be one of those "cult hits" for the DS. In other words, people who hate the series are thinking about picking this up.

Does regional mean JAP/US/Euro (i.e. you can trade with anyone provided they have the same region game as you)? Just checking.

I'm hoping that this is limited to Japan olny, much like Animal Crossing was. I hope that the USA-Europe trading will be present and that this is for language issues otherwise it could stop a lot of importing....
