Those NeoGAFfers are up to it again. They always find something to get our heart rates jumping, but this time they have really done it.
Apparently there might be a side story for Final Fantasy XII that is making its way our beloved DS.
This whole story seems to be quite the buzz. Shortly after the original blog was posted, the author edited it and information vanished. It originally had a little more info about the DS game but now it only shows a sad "FFXII." Sounds like the Square-Enix mafia is doing its dirty work.
We understand that half the information passed along is usually all playground talk, but this particular blogger seems to be very trusted. This is the same blogger that leaked the news about Chocobo's Magic Picture Book and Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker.
The Final Fantasy XII side story details remain shrouded in mystery and we hope that these aren't sirens singing. We would love to see a mixture of the two systems with one of our favorite dominant RPGs.
Join us in secretly praying to Bahamut or any other summon of your choice. Just make it come true!

Wow, no thank you. If you are going to make a FF XII side story, put it on the PSP w/ some nice PS2/PSP connectivity please.
Afterwards, you can put some effort into making a FF: CC game for the DS that would also sport some nice connectivity features also.
I'm still hoping that FF VIII and Chocobo World were just a preview of things to come.

I find it highly unlikely that a company known for their reverent treatment of their franchises would choose to milk Final Fantasy XII in such a way. Highly unlikely.
Which is to say, 100% LIKELY that not only will there be a spinoff game, but there will also be one or more of the two bundles:
-The game, plus a specially-colored DS, or
-The game, plus a crappy figurine,
for way more than should be charged.

Square Enix also said they might be planning a side story of FFXIII for the DS. Theres already a name patented and everything. Just so people dont get confused by FFXII and FFXIII

What you have to remember is that Square Enix has released different parts of a particular story on different platforms. Like, FFXIII will have a cellphone game that is part of it's storyline. [Final Fantasy Agito XIII] So, it wouldn't be surprising if they suddenly did this.

@ Ken,
I agree with you. It makes a lot more sense to put it a side story of FFXII on the PSP instead of the DS. Also, they've already announced a FFCC for the DS a while ago.

@ Silver R. Wolfe,
I loved FF Tactics Advance. It's perhaps my favorite FF game not in the main series.

I couldn't stand it. I thought it was an insult to the original version. There was nothing I liked about the game, from the storyline to the gameplay mechanics. But that's what is great about the world, there are opinions.

Dear Square Enix,
Please stop making spinoffs of particular Final Fantasy games. (And while I'm at it, please release more Front Mission games in English.)

I have faith that Square-Enix could make use of the USB ports on both the PS2 and PSP. IF not, FF XIII will be playable on the PS3 and we all know there will be some PS3/PSP love in the future.

I think some of you guys are forgetting that FF12 takes place in the same world as the Tactics games, so making a new Tactics game with references to 12 would make a lot of sense. And releasing it on the DS with its touchscreen is the best option for a strategy game no matter how much you want the PSP's graphics.
They'd probably call it something like Final Fantasy XII: Tactics or some such. If they are planning this they would likely announce it at TGS later this month.

Agree
The way SE has milked Final Fantasy VII, why wouldn't they do this?
@ Ken, dude, The PSP has no connectivity with the PS2, and Square Enix has generally confined the Final Fantasy Series to the single most profitable platform (PS1, PS2, GBA, DS) Explains why GameCube got no love (don't remind me of Crystal Chronicles) or Xbox, which were both technically better systems.
