Here's good news from Europe for a change -- last week saw the release of the Opera Browser for the DS. The browser, which has two viewing modes, retails for €39.99 (or about £30). And hey, you got it before the U.S. and not too long after Japan. So if you're reading today's news about delayed games from the comfort of your couch with DS in hand, know that you have some small bonus. For those of you in Europe who picked one up, how's it working for you? Give us your impressions. And we're surprised we haven't yet heard about any filtering services, but we're sure they're coming ....

I thougt it would be cool to comment using the browser itself. Since I've been ill since I bought it, yes i am fine with sympathy, i haven't been able to test it out in the eal world. My major gripes ar that there is no flash support, little or no javascript support and that most webpages aren't designed for hand held devices such as this. on the other hand the handwriting recognition is exremely well done but find my self leaning towards the keyboard. I am actually impressed with how the browser handles websites especially the overview mode, which i prefer. I exremely recomend this piece of software. Also i can't wait for flash and javascript support in the next version- if it exists.

I'm due to get this for my birthday, and dispite the lack of flash and JAVA support, I'm still looking forward to getting this piece of kit. :)
(Don't confuse javascript with java.)

What are you smoking, Romath?
This post is nowhere near word for word on yours.
About the only similarities between your post and this one is the fact that Europe has it and the US doesn't and a vague mention of filtering software.
Talking about giving due credit... Practice what you preach - I don't see any reference to a Nintendo/Opera press release in your post.
Anyhow, n00b-trolling aside - good work on something coming out in Europe (and in theory, Australia as well) before the US for once... I imagine this is largely due to the fact that there's a lot less to translate in a browser than there is in a game - translating content to the various European languages is what causes a lot of the delay.

I'm pretty sure there isn't javascript support aswell as I went to dynamicdrive.com to check, the site's javascript links didn't work. Yeah also no java support. What I meant to say at the end was 'if there is a sequal of sorts with all the support which is missing in this version I would definetely buy it.' I'm going to re check on the javascript again. I'll post back if it does work.

Bought my copy on day of release. However, I almost purchased the 'phat' version by mistake. So remember, if you're importing there are two versions of the browser, the phat and the the lite version. I'm guessing it's just the size difference of the memory extension pack. The lite version fits snugly in the DS with no protruding edge like a GBA cart or the Japanese release of the browser.

That's my problem actually, I still have the original DS, but I plan to buy the Lite *somewhere* in the future. I just don't have the slightest clue where that 'somewhere' might be...
So, dispite the fact that I think this browser is too expensive for what it is, I'll buy it anyway... Only, because of the 2 versions, I think I just wait untill I get my Lite, because, I WILL get it...
Although that brower is so damn tempting :(
What color does the Lite attachment have?

Re: Colour of Lite attachment
It is a grayish transparent plastic. I had hoped for two versions (black or white), but this compromise colour does not actually clash with my black DS lite.
As for the browser experience, it is similar but better to browsing with a mobile phone. The font used is highly readable, and the browser is able to handle most Web sites in a reasonable manner.

Want it shipped to the US?
Use eBay!
From Japan its around $39.99 plus around $10 shipping depending on the dealer.

A word of warning to those looking to purchase the browser, due to memory restrictions, it can be very slow.
I'm using it at the moment and to give an example, to load the front-page of 'ds fanboy' with all images (on nicely made sites the browser can freeze until all elements are loaded), WITH a decent connection took about 2 minutes.
Needless to say, using .gif heavy sites such as B3ta is a nono and can completely overload the system memory (come to think of it 10mb seems rather stingy given the performance).
Overall if you are planning on using plain sites such as email then the browser is fine, but be prepared to be taken back to the days of 56k modems should you demand more from the internet. Oh did I mention flash? Sound? Video? No?? Nevermind ;)

To be honest, going back to 56k doesn't sound so bad for someone living in a 3rd world country like me (I live in the Philippines). And the lack of flash support is probably linked to:
>>due to memory restrictions, it can be very slow.
I'd agree it's a tad too expensive for a browser, but I'm still tempted to get it once it...oh who am I kidding it'll never come out here. :P

Oh... nice to know about the slow loading pages, but I don't mind, it just would be nice to be browsing the internet from my bed... Instead of carrying my heavy/heaty laptop. No good for my lappy either..
I'd use it for mail, and reading blogs only, so I guess it's doable =)
I wouldn't mind 56k connection, I'm a very patient boy :p
Still deciding... wait, or not, wait, or not... darn it!

Adding one more voice to the general opinion. It's slow and limited and VERY fussy about Wi-Fi encryption, although it's a pretty decent piece of programming to be able to surf on a DS at all.
I've done a review here http://3lib.ukonline.co.uk/dslite/opera.htm if anyone's interested.
