Reader wiiminator is having router issues when it comes to his DS WiFi. Since switching to an Apple Airport Extreme router, he's unable to take his DS online. He says the issue seems to have something to do with security options, which could definitely be it, since the DS doesn't like WPA. But instead of throwing out a bunch of theories, since we don't know how wiiminator's security is configured, we thought we'd see about a group powwow today. If you've had issues with any aspect of your WiFi connection, throw 'em out there ... and those of you in the know, here's your chance to show off. It's not always the best network, but it's what we've got, and we should do what we can to make sure everyone can play.

I have the new linksys wirlesss N router (well not new anymore i guess...), and my DS lite hasn't been able to connect yet, I assume it's the WPA key (as others have stated). It should be noted that I used to have a wireless G router ,and it worked fine.
sigh, i really want to beat up on my friends at diddy kong racing online and mario kart and tetris (albeit the people with asian characters still kick my butt).

My Belkin router refuses to be compatible with the ds, so I guess I'm stuffed.
Everytime I twiddle with the settings on the DS, it manages to throw out my internet for a few hours, so I gave up!
I want to play Animal crossing online. Sigh

My friend is having problems connecting her ds to online. When she tries to set it up it says it needs a SID code, is she doing something wrong. I kind of have the same router as her and mine works great. Help please!

I had some trouble getting both my Wii and DS to recognize my Belkin N1 router at first. The problem seemed to sort it self out when I changed the default IP settings to use a 10.0.0.* network. Also, I don't think I've enabled encryption, but I have SSID broadcast turned off and use strict MAC address filtering, allowing only the MAC's of my devices to connect. Everything works like a charm now.

My Linksys WRK54G isn't letting my DS connect.
I've recently set up a static iP for my laptop, but left my other laptop to auto assign an IP address, and for a while, it worked fine, until recently, so i gave it a staticIP address too, and now it works
So i givemy DS ip settings, but it still fails to connect
Thing is, if i give my DS the ip settings my laptop uses, and connect at the same time, i get the message 'conflicting IP address' on my laptop.
So this means my DS is trying to connect, but failing...
and also have a WEP key, if that information helps

Wrt getting the Nintendo DS to work with the new Airport Extreme base station 802.11n, the following article provided me the critical hint: Use Option (Ctrl on WinXP) when selecting the radio mode, more choices will appear. I selected "802.11b/g compatible", then I selected WEP 128 bits, entered a 13-character sequence, and bingo. The NDS saw my network, I entered the same 13 characters on the NDS, and I had a connection.

Of course, it's still unacceptable that the only option on Nitendo DS is WEP; WEP is now so badly broken that it hardly any better than nothing at all.

I have the same issue.. DS lite connecting to an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11n with WEP (Transitional) security. One thing that I can add is that some games DO conenct and play fine (Clubouse games/Final Fantasy III).... and Tetris DS DOES NOT. Some other posts that I have read indicate that there has been a switch in the newer games that changing the OPEN/SHARED key type can resolve on some other routers. This setting doesn't seem to be available in the transitional mode on the AEBS :(

Interesting. So it depends on the game!? I was hoping the WiFi code would be part of the firmware in the NDS, so that it could maybe be fixed. But if it's part of the games, then there is really little hope. Btw, the game that works here is Mario Kart. We're also getting Pokemon Diamond, I hope it works too.

Here's what I have discovered in my research of the Nintendo DS Lite and WiFi access:
The DS Lite does not play well with auto configuration at all. This is mostly due to the wide variety of wireless routers and access points that are created.
I have a Belkin wireless pre-N router being used on my network as just an access point and when I use automatic configuration, my DS Lite does not connect to the access point.
However, after using the ipconfig /all command on my windows PC, I manually set up an ip address for the DS Lite, including the subnet mask, default gateway, and dns servers, and it connects to the access point just fine now.
For those Mac OS users out there, this website will help you connect your DS Lite: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20051119155606277
My only issue that i have now is with my firewall. I have a very extensive hard wire network in my house and have a hardware based firewall. My DS Lite connects fine with my access point but it still does not connect to the Nintendo servers.
Right now, I am trying to figure out what ports on my firewall need to stay open for my DS Lite to connect to Nintendo's game servers...?
