DS Daily: Unfinished business

Everyone's got one or two of 'em hanging around -- unfinished games lying forgotten in corners of the house. Sometimes we get distracted, or a game starts out great and then suddenly isn't as fun, or perhaps something better just comes along -- whatever the reason, most gamers have a few stories of unfinished business. What have you got right now that you haven't finished, and why?

This blogger's nemesis? The much-beloved Clubhouse Games. There's only so much slogging through dominoes and Ludo one girl can take! Luckily, it's still tons of fun without a lot of pressure to beat everything.

1. Yah I broke down and bought Super Paper Mario, and then the God that is known as Pokémon Diamond came out and I haven't touched Super Paper Mario ever since.

*Mini-SPOILER ALERT*
I think I'm on Chapter 4-2 (right after the "you gotta battle thru 100 in order to get the Pure Heart").
*END Mini-SPOILER*

But still, the DS is now firmly attached to my left hand and isn't going anywhere until after I beat the Elite Four. Then maybe, only maybe, will I go back to Super Paper Mario

2. Spectrobes, because it's a big steamy pile.

3. Both Metroid Prime: Hunters and Clubhouse Games are lying around unfinished. MPH because of its control scheme and Clubhouse Games because of Ludo.

Posted at 9:49AM on May 4th 2007 by PeterK

4. I've forced my way through most of Clubhouse Games, but don't even feel like going back to "beat" everything.

Hotel Dusk was another "screw you, game! I don't need to know how this ends," cart that is collecting dust.

I'm close to beating Super Paper Mario, really I am. I just have this thing called "Jump Ultimate Stars" on it's merry way to me today. Let's hear it for breaking my import cherry!

5. Where can I begin...
Clubhouse, I've got around 4 or 5 missions left before I've got 100% on the whole game (cleared all of stamp mode)
In Lunar Knights, I'm stuck at the boss in Santa Celia Station, havent bothered to go back to it for a while
I've been too lazy to clear World 8 on NSMB
Story mode in MPH is only half-finished because I only play multiplayer anyways
I need to get back to going through Story in BombermanLand
And I've got 4-5 games (Contact, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Viewtiful Joe, and Hotel Dusk) that I've been abrubtly cut off from due to Pokemon

Posted at 10:24AM on May 4th 2007 by ConstyXIV

6. Never finished NSMB, just got bored and frustrated with it. I ended up selling it off. Also still hacking away at FFIII, but got distracted when I discovered the wonders of GameFly and rented Trauma Center.

Posted at 10:34AM on May 4th 2007 by Mark

7. Mario VS DK2, Metroid, Trauma Center, Mario64DS, because I'm stuck.
Brain training, Tetris DS, Meteos, because they get boring.
Viewtiful Joe, Asphalt 2, because they're awful.

And mainly, because I don't finish games.

Posted at 10:42AM on May 4th 2007 by Thomas

8. Only got a few missions left on CHG, but don't particularly plan on doing them.

Never actually finished AW:DS - it just got hard and I didn't want to rely on a playguide... I'll probably get back into it one day, but I'm not sure. Having to re-learn which units are good at what puts me off.

Apart from that, I've finished all my games... Haven't gone for 100% in games like castlevania though.

9. Final Fantasy III is not quite finished because I picked up Phoenix Wright. Why save the world when you can watch Steel Samurai!

Not to mention my house has been neglected for about 9 months in Animal Crossing.

Posted at 11:07AM on May 4th 2007 by Nycteris

10. Oh christ, where to begin.

Contact, because I got distracted by Mario vs. DK 2.
Mario vs. DK 2, because I got distracted by Yoshi's Island DS.
Yoshi's Island DS, because I got distracted by Lunar Knights.
Lunar Knights, because I got distracted by Final Fantasy III.
Final Fantasy III, because I got distracted by Pokémon.
And I haven't even opened Pheonix Wright 2 yet.

I fully intend to complete each game once I'm done with Pokémon though - I even have a new shiny DS Lite as an incentive. (Games just look better on it for some reason!)

Just as well, because god dammit I need to save money.

11. I'm with Thomas in that I seem not to finish games, but mainly because something else will release and I'll get distrac--OOoo, shiny!

The worst offender on my list of games-I'll-get-back-to-no-really is Xenogears, which I've had since release (1998?). Of the more contemporary titles there's Beyond Good and Evil, Castlevania: PoR, and Phoenix Wright (though the last gets play only when my SO can read along, otherwise I'd finish it up myself).

12. wow, this has been the subject of most of my emails, blogs for a long time.

xbox - panzer dragoon, on the last boss, every 6 months or so I say to myself that I'm going to finish it, I try it, forget what the controls are, and die.

gamecube - metroid prime 1, also on the last boss, every few months I'll pick it up, same problem as panzer

GBA - FFIV, last boss, my characters aren't high enough level to compete.

DS - FFIII, last boss(es), no save points just beforehand so it's quite frustrating spending a half hour getting to the last area and then dying.

GBA - FFVI, got distracted by pokemon pearl. Any one want to trade pal pads?

13. And I STILL Plan to finish FF:Tactics Advance someday!

Posted at 12:19PM on May 4th 2007 by Nycteris

14. Great Question! I have so many.

For the DS
Phoenix Wright 2
I so close to finishing the last case but haven't because I started playing Pokemon.

Castlevania POR
I just beat the 2 sisters and think I'm pretty close to beating the game. I got board it didn't grab me like Dawn of Sorrow.

Trauma Center
It just got way to hard at the end and I just couldn't do it.

Clubhouse Games
Majong on Hard is litterally impossible.

Super Mario 64
Made it to the level with the Giant Clock. I'm probably very close.

For the Playstation 2

Kingdom Hearts
I've beat everything except the last Boss. I've played the last boss but I got totally destroyed.

Bully
About half way through. Great game but I put it down for Zelda: Twighlight princess.

God of War
Haven't even opened it yet because of Bully and Kingdom of hearts but I own it.

Wow after this list I realise 2 things.
1. I play alot of video games. More then I thought because outside of these I've acctually finished several.

2. I need to get more playing time to catch up.

15. I remember with the original Secret of Mana on the SNES. I played co-op with my brother, and we couldn't get through the final dungeon for beans, so we just gave up on it.

Then, about five years down the line, we plug in the SNES for a laugh, (by which times one of the controllers was wonky - the d-pad wouldn't go down!)
load up Secret of Mana and absolutely storm through the final dungeon and kick the bosses ass without any problems. Good times.

Similar thing with the original Advance Wars. I was terrible at it, and just gave up about six missions in. Didn't play it for a year, then went back to it and for some reason found it incredibly easy and blasted through the entire game.

16. OMG I forgot the biggest one that weighs on me most.

Final Fantasy 12 for the PS2
I've played several hours but to be honest the game seems pretty boring so far. But the raving review keep me coming back and giving it more chances.

Nycteris:
Fianal Fantasy Tactics is a great game. I played through it 3 times. Once even on the DS.

17. Well, I'm pretty bad at finishing games -- in addition to the ones I get tired of, I stop playing ones I like because I don't want the experience to be over! I'm trying to stop doing this. (Though Kevin, you *totally* need to finish Beyond Good and Evil -- it's such a satisfying game, and the story wraps up nicely! The ending is the easiest part to play, I promise.)

My biggest gaming problem is Pokemon. I don't know what my problem is. I love the IP, the creature design, the spin-off games, even the anime (I DVR'd it until they got terrible voice actors for Battle Frontier) -- I just can't play the "official" games properly. My partner and I own every pokemon game that exists (so yes, some of them are technically hers), and I've left a trail of unfinished Blue, Crystal, and Sapphire in my wake. I just get stressed out as my pokemans start to fill up their move slots -- I can't decide which moves to keep and which to ditch, and who to teach the TMs and HMs too. And I just can't manage to memorize which type trumps which -- referencing the chart each battle gets to be a drag. It kinda depresses me that I like pokemon so much, but I end up being bored by the games.

18. There's loads, so I'll just list the best DS ones...

Metroid Prime: Hunters (i actually like the controls, but im lost, actually, i might start again soon)
Final Fantasy III (a bit boring and slow for my liking *runs away*)
Phonix Wright: Ace Attourney (not even opened the 2nd one)
Animal Crossing (but of course thats the idea)
New Super Mario Bros. (done the main game, but 3 of those big coins left)
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (about half way i think, but im just confused about where to go)

i'm sure i'll think of more as soon a i click submit...

19. FF III because...I lost interest.
I even have FFA V in the wrapper, but I use my DS more for bouts of backgammon and solitaire anymore.

Posted at 11:10PM on May 4th 2007 by strider_mt2k

20. Final Fantasy III, Yoshi's Island, Pokémon and Castlevania: PoR are the ones that I still want to finish.
There are some that I finished, but not completely, like Trauma Center (those damn X challenges), Super Mario 64 (there's no way I'm gonna get EVERY star) or ClubHouse Games.
And there are some that I just don't want to finish, like Bomberman Land (I only got it for the multiplayer).
