DS Fanboy presents: Game Night 5/3/07

Another week, another Game Night. And, as we said last week, tonight's theme game will be none other than Pokemon Diamond & Pearl, allowing those of you with a love for those battling whatchamacallits to see how your team fares against the DS Fanboy community. For the usual information, including where we're meeting up, head past the post break.

No worries if you don't have the game, show up anyway! There will be plenty of other gamers there looking to play different games. As usual, we'll be meeting up in an IRC chat room set up by reader ConstyXIV. The server is irc.freenode.net and the room we'll be in is #dsfanboy. Remember to be in the chat at 7PM EST (to find out what time that is for you, check this out) to take part in the carnage! Come early to get friend codes if you haven't been with us in past weeks, and check this topic for those which get added in the comments.

See you there!

1. Ach, I really want to do this but the voice chat absolutely TERRIFIES me. Especially as other people frequent the only room I can get Wi-Fi access in.

I'll definitely be on though if I can get said people to sod off somewhere.

What sort of level is everyone? I want to know if I should bring my level 50ish ones that I'm not attached to in the slightest, or my UNSTOPPABLE ARMY of Eevees that are only level 18 at the moment.

That is of course, providing I can get the room to myself. Bloody voice chat.

2. I'll jump on there. Don't think I'll be playing any pokemon though, seeing as my chimchar is only lvl 17 and he's the highest level pokemon in my group.

4. Oops. Mine is 4983 1486 0064.

Do we have to have voice chat on or is there a way to disable it?

Posted at 1:28PM on May 3rd 2007 by Saphion

5. @4 Saphion:
I'm not sure if voice has an on/off switch, but you can always use my workaround: Dont Use It :). As long as you're near a computer (or a second DS with homebrew equipment, as I am forced to do) and you're running an IRC client (mIRC (Win), Gaim(all), X-Chat(all), Colloquy (OSX), or DSOrganize (duh) are good ones), you should be fine.
I believe in the battle mode, there are options like "lv50 battle" that bumps up/down all your Pokemon to lv50 (or whatever)

6. I have a few Super Chimcharsv5, and one or two Charmandersv3 up for grabs.

No SuperPiplups or SuperTurtiwgs this time around...

The Chimchars will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Charmander(s) will be auctioned :P

7. I'll be there if I can; I don't think I've got other things demanding my attention tonight.

Most of my critters are levels 15–20, with a handful lower than that.

8. Grumble, grumble, growl... I've been itching for some pokemon action, but as with the other game nights, I have an evening Thursday class... however, this is the last time I am in such a positions, so if pokemon had been but one week later..

Anyway, on the whole voice chat issue, you CAN turn it off. Just hit X while in the WFC lobby, and there will be an icon of a speaker with an X over it by your name. X again toggles it back on. That simple.

Oh yeah, also, level isn't necessarily an issue, aside from having a better movepool to choose from. If you choose "Battle LV50" or something like that, all pokemon will be set to level 50 and their stats adjusted accordingly. Or you can choose LV100 with the same affect. Free play, of course, leaves them at their current levels.

9. Awesome, I'll definitely be here then! (Even if it is at midnight here in Blighty!)

For those that can't make it tonight, surely we should just collect each others friend codes for when we can, and randomly battle each other when the mood takes us in the future?

10. I might try to come if I've got the time. I'm pretty new to the whole DS thing (the only game I have is Pokemon Pearl! >.

And jsut to let you know, my Name in Diamond is the same as here, and I have 7 badges and all around lvl 40's.

Can't wait to see you all there tonight!

13. Oh by the way, I will have my voice chat on if anyone else wants to talk... i love talking to random people

Posted at 3:29PM on May 3rd 2007 by Tweak

14. FC: 1117-6695-3597 Name: Poody

I will prolly be on 30 mins late, but I got my copy of Pearl all ready to go. I am right before the elite 4 and have 2 lvl 60s.

Lvl 50 double battle is what I have the most fun with. Building 2v2 combos is really fun.

Torterra I choose you!

15. Wow, my Eevee army is going to get it's ass kicked.

Still, it's having fun that counts!
I'm so excited~ and I just can't hide it~, doo-doo-doo-dee-doo-dee-doo-dee-doo and I like it~!

Thanks

17. That was awesome. Even managed to scare some people with my dodgy brummie accent.

And fun was had by all!

Posted at 8:49PM on May 3rd 2007 by Saphion

18. Tonight was great. Special thanks go to Zsy, for teaching me how 1 Pokemon can pwn 3 singlehandedly.

And to Saphion and his Army of Eevees. It rocks.

Fun was definitely there. I love game nights again!

Posted at 10:24PM on May 3rd 2007 by Nushio

19. I got thoroughly blown away (this is only my third day with the game! i live in australia and had to import it), but it was still great fun. didn't use voicechat or the people in the next room would have wondered why the hell i was talking to myself at 9am on a friday morning.

anyway, i was most impressed with Saphion's eevee squad. it's a nice concept. and the fact they knew top level moves like psychic and thunder made them fight well above their level.

Posted at 10:43PM on May 3rd 2007 by Bill McCai

20. You would not believe how long I spent in the Game Corner trying to get enough coins for Psychic...!
