DS Daily: Clearance addiction

We recently asked you how you got by in lean times. It's a topic we take to heart, since our countless millions are usually tied up in so many high-risk investments that we can't always get access to enough walking-around money to cover DS games and lobster stuffed with tacos. So we got into the habit of looking for deals.

This practice creates an unfortunate compulsion. Sometimes, rather than buying the things we want, we'll buy stuff we normally wouldn't be interested in just because it's so cheap. There have been occasions where, based on a tip from CAG, we've loaded up on clearance games, only to be struck with buyer's remorse. Of course, there were other times when we've been surprised by quality, as was the case with our $2 copy of Nightmare of Druaga. It didn't change the world, but it was fantastic for a $2 game.

Have you ever been afflicted by Cheap Game Fever? Ever find yourself getting up early to go to Circuit City for something you don't really care about?

1. hahaha, I wouldn't exactly that I "don't really care about" the games that I buy off of clearance. I freakin loved Guilty Gear DS. For 10 bucks, I say that it was well damn worth it.

And yes, as soon as I had heard of the 10 dollar a game sale they had at circuit city, I left the apartment immediately. It shouldn't be a surprise since they had too many good games to miss out on.

2. My local Costco has practically been paying its customers to take any remaining copies of Superman for the DS off their hands. I haven't bitten.

I am guilty of this. I bought Trace Memory for close to nothing, but was disappointed because I beat it so quickly and replay value was so low. However, the trade in value was incredibly close to the purchase price that I avoided suffering from buyer's remorse. I paid a total of $2 to have it for 5 days.

Since then I have been more weary. Yet, I was pleased at what I got when I picked up Brain Age last week for $14 at Circuit City. I can actually think more clearly since starting the training regimen. I will be curious to see what Game Stop has this weekend. I'll probably end up with buyer's remorse after that, simply because some games they are selling will simply be too cheap to not buy.

3. I bought Fire Emblem Sacred Stones at Circuit City's Easter sale -- $11.25! I wasn't sure if I'd like it and the low clearance price made me a little suspicious. But the reviews were positive so I took a chance and it's now one of my favorite games.

Best Buy had that insane clearance sale where some games were $1.99. My local BB didn't have any of the DS games on the sale list so I bought some GBA games because they were cheap and they looked like they might be kinda interesting. I ended up keeping two and trading in the others, which I made a little profit on. And I do mean little, Gamecrazy only gave me $3/ea for King Kong and Teen Titans. (I got more for the others.) So that was a good lesson right there, don't buy anything for the potential trade-in value. I'm just glad I didn't lose money on them.

I kept Megaman Battle Network #6 and Duel Masters. The salesguy recommended Megaman and I really had fun with it, what a great battle system. I even bought some other Megaman games because of it. I kept Duel Masters because it's kind of like Magic the Gathering. The graphics are horrible though.
