DS Daily: With and without

At this point, after months of insane sales, it seems like everyone must have a DS by now -- but that isn't the case. This morning, what we want to discuss is who you know with a DS and who you don't. Now, we're not looking for you to profile every single person you know, but rather, just give us some generalities. Do many of the gamers you know carry around a DS? What about typically non-gaming folks? The DS has attracted a lot of nontraditional owners, after all. What's the breakdown among people you know?

Ara ra,

I think out of all the "gamers" I know, 2 don't have DS's.

But one of them is addicted only to "pretty" games that require spending hundreds of (mommy and daddy's) dollars to upgrade his current system before he can play. And the other believes that the PSP is the superior handheld...but he also believes FF:Tactics was the worst Final Fantasy because (his words) "the first chapter had nothing to do with the rest of the story."

So they hardly count. ^_^

I got one after I played on one at a friend's house. After I got one, my mom bought one for herself. Then my brother's girlfriend got one (she wanted it for Pokemon and Nintendogs). I know the daughter of another friend has one, with Nintendogs. My partner and my brother both have PS2's cause they like FPS. My brother does also have a NES, SNES, N64 and a Wii though :D

the rest of them, they ask if I've got it on me so that they can play it -_-''

My husband and I went to a friends house and we all pulled out our DS lites with their 2 year old. It didnt take long for us to realize we all had one of each different color.

Our close friends have DS lites, acquaintances have PSP.

I only recently got my DS, and was the first of our gamer group to get one. We're early 20s kids but they're more preoccupied with high end graphics (read: 360) or party games (read: Guitar Hero). They're mainly FPS gamers.

Most of my friends are as nerdy as I am and have PSP's and DS's, all homebrewed like crazy. It's nice to talk to someone and be like "Holy crap, Puzzlemaniak has twice as many games now" and they know what you're talking about.

I brought mine to school one day to show someone my Pokemans, then one day brought my second DS as well so we could play MarioKart download play. That made several people buy one. Now on any given day there'll be 7 or 8 of us playing, and between us we've got all the DS Lite colours that have been released in NZ plus a Phat :D Compare that to the 3 PSPs the group own, and only one guy even bothers bringing his these days.

Most of us are gamers anyway, but quite a few non-gamers will borrow one to get in on a round of MarioKart. We just sound like we're having so much fun that everyone wants in!

I always see little kids with them when I'm at work, and I usually try to peak over their shoulders and try to figure out what they're playing, usually it's Mario Kart, which makes the future look a little brighter knowing it's not all 'O.M.G. Graficks' these days.

Well, all the die hard gamers I know have them, save for my my cousin, who is 20, like me. Except that I'm female, and he's male.

The odd thing about this is that he and I were raised on the Nintendo together, and I use to be the one filching his Game Boy when we were kids.

Now he steals my DS. Bastard.

Also, my step-dad is a really big gamer, at 27 years old (yes yes, I know, my mom's a cradle robber), and he really loves playing games on my and my brother's DS's, but he won't spend the money for his own because he cares more about taking care of bills and making sure the family is taken care of.

My mom loves her games, but she's more of a tabletop RPG & MMO gamer. She was big on Wizardry when I was little, but she'd never shell out the money for a handheld or console for herself, because, of course, she prefers to get stuff for her kids.

I don't really know any non-gamers with DS's, HOWEVER...I don't really KNOW any non-Gamers. For cryin' out loud, my GRANDMOTHER was the one who got my aforementioned cousin and I into video games in the first place, and she spends more time on WoW than anyone in the family!

So, for the most part, the folks I know who don't have DS, are still DS fans, but they just can't afford them.
