Those of you who have been clamoring to play Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard because you either enjoyed the first game or wanted to play it and couldn't find it, have no fear! Atlus announced today that the game will, in fact, be localized.
Heroes of Lagaard will hitting American shores in June, adding to the DS's awesome Q2 schedule. There's still no announcement for Europe, but getting the game in English is half the battle, right?
If you just can't wait three months for this title, you can dabble around in Atlus' official (English) site. Of course, if you're an impatient wench like this blogger, seeing all the pretties might just make you want it more. A Catch-22, indeed. The site also promises to update every Monday, so if you have an interest in the game, you can check back every week to get your Etrian fix.

HELL YES.
I have been waiting for this announcement since EOII was announced for Japan. Knew you wouldn't let me down, Atlus!

Is it really smart for Atlus to release it so close to FFTA2?

Yes, because those of us who want this game are definitely going to buy it over FFTA2.

I had a similar thought, but it was more like "how am I gonna manage to play both of those at the same time?"

I finally found a used copy of EO at a GameStop last month, and despite not having the time to complete it I've been thoroughly blown away by what I've played--simple yet brutal, and undeniably addictive. I suppose this is huge motivation to complete the original.

Didn't care for the first one, it just wasn't deep enough for me. It centered around grinding with respawning enemies, which I don't care for much. I prefer the Might and Magic series with long storylines, and puzzles. Ultima Underworld, and Eye of the Beholder series were also pretty good and far more detailed than EO.
I hope they put more into the second. The DS really is a nice platform for a deep dungeon crawler.

In fact, has anyone finished the first game at all? I reached floor 18, then Contra 4 and and Phantom Hourglass came along... Maybe I'll get back to it when I'm fed up with Brawl (if that's possible)

I'm on floor 27/28, which means I've completed the story-line (for what it's worth) but still have 3 more floors to go.
I got up to floor 15ish before I stopped playing for months. Then I got Orcs and Elves for christmas, and all I could think was "EO was so much better", so I went back to it :)
I'm sure people have finished it though, although it would take a while to complete all side-quests....
