We don't even have the regular silver DS Lite, and Japan gets a super shiny version for free. Wiping off fingerprints every time you look at the thing is really the only downside.
Could this mean that Nintendo won't be announcing new hardware at E3 (since they'll be giving away Lites in that period)? We think it may mean just the opposite: Nintendo is clearing out some of their existing DS Lites by throwing shiny parts on the outside and making prizes out of them.

So... is it like a contest or do you just get a new DS for registering two games? Because the former is cool but the latter is just about the best thing any company has ever done. Well, for Japan anyway. xP

Contest. Register 2 games, get a chance at one, maximum 5 "chances" (registering 10 games).

AH! DO WANT!
What's the deal man? We keep getting the two-tone DSes. Where's the monochrome love?
(I own a red and black DS lite myself but would MUCH prefer a mono-colored red or blue or green or any other than black or white, but maybe I'm alone.)

See this is why I still don't have a Lite yet. Nintendo of America is capable of shelling out such awesome colours, but the two-tones just keep coming.
Perfectly content with my Phat at this point.

Hmm if they're trying to clear out their stock, why just give out 3000? Anyway, I prefer my plain DS over a shiny DS.... although the black one kinda looks nice....
