Chrono Trigger goodies, just in time to appeal to your sense of nostalgia

With the recent announcement of Chrono Trigger DS, the DS Fanboy staff have been salivating for weeks now. In fact, we've all tied buckets around our necks, to save our precious t-shirts from being drenched. Life is all about adapting.

If you find yourself in the same crazed state of mind as us, desperate to get your hands on the final product, know some cool Chrono Trigger collectibles just went up on eBay. They're a set of keychain figurines and some Prism cards. The keychains are especially nice, but cost about twice the going rate on a SNES Chrono Trigger cart.

Unique Nintendo coin celebrates a successful DS launch

If you've never laid eyes on ths coin before, then you probably never worked directly for Nintendo. It was given out as a thank you for the successful launch of the DS to Nintendo employees, as you can see the words surrounding the DS-side of the coin clearly state just that. And, with the bid at $31 at the time of this post, it's also a pretty neat collectible for the DS-obsessed that won't break the bank.

Awesome controller shirt chronicles Nintendo's hardware

For everything leading up to the DS, this shirt displays all of Nintendo's hardware we've known and loved. It's really only missing the DS and Wiimote, but for us nerds who just love Nintendo more than breathing (we pretend it's a game Nintendo invented when we were born and we're maintaining the high score), the above shirt might be the best piece of clothing ever. If we owned this DS Lite and the shirt, we'd feel like we lived a meaningful and good life.

The problem is that it's only available in Large, meaning that bigger and smaller folks will have a tough time making the shirt work.

Nintendo neon sign up for auction, DS Fanboy contemplates purchase

Perhaps it's the bright lights, but something about neon signs just interests us. No, it's not the science of it all (it's actually gas in there!), but the ... yeah, bright lights. Hey, look, a bright sign!

If the neon Nintendo sign doesn't interest you, then there are other Nintendo-related auctions today. There's a Mario statue and some test cartridges up for grabs, as well.

DS Daily: For sale

These two redone handhelds -- a Phat and a Lite -- popped up on eBay, courtesy of seller rebelforever33, and since we post the occasional auctioned-DS, we thought it might be a good time to ask: have you ever considered buying one of the gussied-up systems that turn up there? We've seen some incredible mods up for auction, but redoing a DS can be a delicate undertaking.

Sometimes, though, it just might be worth it.

Can you find the Pikachu?

A yellow and black custom DS Lite has popped up on eBay, and reportedly sports an engraved Pikachu for all those Pokémon fans out there who can't get their hands on the real yellow Pikachu Lite. The problem? Said engraving isn't visible anywhere in the provided photos! For all we know, it could actually be some Mudkips on that DS. But that's okay -- we heard you like Mudkips.

Regardless, it is pretty (but not seriously yellow), but we're not sure it's $160 pretty, which is the Buy-it-Now price. We like it when they start at the low, low price of $0.99.

The Legend of this painted DS Lite

The ancient prophecies foretold of the one time someone would put a custom painted DS Lite on eBay and it would not look terrible. This Hero of Painted DS Lites, now revealed as viper640_0 from the idyllic POWER SELLER VILLAGE, whose early efforts lacked magic.

Now, however, he has acquired the Airbrush of Paint and defeated the Impulse to Use Questionable Color Schemes, and has returned from his quest with the Triforce of Pretty Good Paint Jobs. And, uh, he's selling it on eBay. We would be proud to carry this DS Lite around in Hyrule or even somewhere that existed.

When a whip comes along, you must eBay it

This would probably be your everyday Ren-faire quality whip were it not for one important detail: a Castlevania logo on a metal plate right above the handle. With that little detail, this leather whip becomes your own personal Vampire Killer. Though we recommend you take the Jonathan Morris "keep it in your inventory forever but don't bother using it" approach, over the Simon Belmont "hit every single thing you see with it" approach.

Whips like these were sold on Konami's website a couple of years ago, but are no longer available. eBay user hgswells has put one on eBay for sale to Belmonts and non-Belmonts alike. Judging by the apparent condition in the photo, it hasn't been used to whip even one Medusa head.

Probably the coolest Game Boy Color you'll see today

Blurry pictures aside, this modded and painted Game Boy color looks pretty good! It's been Zelda-fied and is now available on eBay, though the Buy it Now price of $70 seems a little ambitious, but maybe with the upgraded sound and the new look, seller auron5881 might get lucky.

It's starting to seem as though Zelda-themed mods and paint jobs are among the most common for Nintendo fans. How's this rate among all you've seen?

Hot on the streets of eBay: Bape DS Lite

You know the Bathing Ape DS Lite that you can't get? You can get it, thanks to eBay user garakuta1028! Unfortunately, like all designer goods, you have to pay dearly for the privilege of a thing with a label. Combine this with the usual premium associated with a limited-edition DS Lite, and you've got one pricey monkeyed system.

The white Bape DS Lite is now available on eBay for just $550. Chances are, if you're a fan of Tokyo fashion, you're used to paying that much for stuff. The rest of us will just have to be satisfied with the option to skin (or draw on) our everyday DS Lites.

DS Download Auction

Sure, this is just a used DS Phat with a sticker on it, in a chipped lockbox, but it's the coolest used DS in a box we've ever seen. That's because this particular arrangement is a retail download station, of the sort set up in local stores (and at Safeco Field). It's intended to broadcast demos to anyone who brings their DS to the location that houses it.

As if it weren't cool enough to have a DS Download Station that is never supposed to leave the store, this set comes with two cartridges full of Download Play demos. The current bid is only $.99, but who knows how high the reserve is, especially given the $350 Buy It Now price. For that matter, who knows if Nintendo will see the auction and shut it down?

You got a Piece of Art!

This original drawing by Ryan Stegman, penciller of Marvel's Magician: Apprentice, isn't actually that different from any other Zelda fanart you'd find on the Internet, except
  1. it's more expensive, and
  2. it's way awesome.
We never subscribed to the idea of Zelda needing to be dramatic and intense and stuff (which, we suppose, means we're on the Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass "team"), but we can recognize wow-inducing pencil art when we see it, and this drawing instantly evokes an adventure on which it would be dangerous to go alone.

If you're the winning bidder of Ryan's auction, you'll get not only a lovely full-color print (pictured), but the original pencil drawing as well.

Advertise the Game Boy to yourself every day

While the prospect of advertising the Game Boy to ourselves every day sounds pretty good, we're going to have to pass on this auction for one of the sweetest things you could put on your wall. As has always been our luck, we're sadly stuck in the unfortunate position of having no monies to spend on anything right now, so it's not like our opinion regarding this lenticular display matters. Oh well ...

What do you all think? Would you find hanging this sign up on your wall is as badass as we imagine it to be, or could you care less?

Donkey Kong GBA SP is the rarest member of the DK crew

We don't even like yellow that much -- or the Rare-fied Donkey Kong character -- and, still, this limited-edition Donkey Kong-themed Game Boy Advance SP calls to us. It's the allure of the rare item, of course, but it's also that the thing is just so distinctive-looking. Other than the banana color, all that marks this as Donkey Kong-specific is a little "DK" logo.

According to the auction, only 1,000 of these things were produced. And according to the current bidder, it's worth at least $200. For us, it's worth a link to the DK Rap.

Normal DS game + slightly different sticker = amazing collectible

eBay seller putermcgee's batch of DS games really isn't that different from other used DS games up for sale. The current bids are commensurate with other auctions for the same games, even. But these launch-era DS games are somewhat rarer (and more awesome) because they're all promo copies.

How much would you pay for a copy of Pac-Pix or Meteos that was once used as a store demo? Because right now they're at $7.50 and $3.25 respectively. Kirby Canvas Curse and Nintendogs (with special Bark Mode gifts!) are at similar prices, as is a European version of WarioWare: Touched! These are the best kind of collectibles: cheap and not ridiculously impractical.
