These two redone handhelds -- a Phat and a Lite -- popped up on eBay, courtesy of seller rebelforever33, and since we post the occasional auctioned-DS, we thought it might be a good time to ask: have you ever considered buying one of the gussied-up systems that turn up there? We've seen some incredible mods up for auction, but redoing a DS can be a delicate undertaking.

Sometimes, though, it just might be worth it.

The pictures on the ebay auction are JUST AWFUL. They're bad enough to make a potential buyer think "what is this guy trying to hide with all the blurry pictures?"

Anyhow, I really am a fan of custom DS paintjobs, and I never have bid on one, although I have been considering giving Colorware a try with my current Lite: I have the red-black Brain Age bundle lite and really prefer the clean look of the mono-colored ones that are popping up all over the world EXCEPT the US.

I see that problem with a lot of eBay auctions and can't help but wonder if the posters just really aren't looking at the pics they're posting. I'm a bit of a snob, because I'm a hobbyist photographer, but seriously... if something is THAT blurry, what's the point? And it's a shame, because a lot of those custom jobbies look otherwise great!

Lol, those are my DS's. I took those photos, and yes they do suck. It's my camera. It can't take close shots for some reason. The thing is an Archos AV320 with the Camera attachment. If you want to retake better photos, let me know. I can, I think I'm just going to anyway.
