Blogger shares a riveting DS Lite adventure

Much like the rest of the Japanese population, avid blogger Mavis got up this morning with only a single purpose in mind: Get a DS Lite. Now. After arriving in front of the chosen store at the unholy hour of 6:30am, he was faced with the unfortunate reality of about 200 people already standing in line. Naturally, he immediately killed them all and robbed their worthless corpses of precious pre-order tickets.

No, that's wrong. That's what we would have done. Instead, this man calmly stood in line and documented his journey for all to see. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, you can check out his personal blog and see, step-by-step and snap-by-snap just how exactly he got his hands on that highly desirable DS Lite. (Ending spoilerz!)

1. Okay, I'm officially jealous. Me want one now!! Must....wait....until....US......release...

2. At least he had something to do while waiting on line. Back in the old days we had to do that for every concert we would want to go to. To tell you the truth, I miss those days and I hate TicketBastard.
This probably was a fun line to wait on with everyone playing their phat DSs, there was probably allot of competitions and dog eyeballs(playdates). Unfortunately this line probably didn't have as many interesting cigarettes like you'd find waiting overnight for Rush tickets.

3. Mmm... italic comments.

4. Lucky guy, getting his on release.

I have to wait longer because of the gougers.

5. So if I were to buy a DS lite from lik-sang, would it be identical to what will eventually be the U.S. release version? Obviously the packaging would probably be in Japanese, but the device itself will be the same correct? Anyone know?

Posted at 4:17PM on Mar 2nd 2006 by Loban 0 stars

6. Yea
Nintendo doesn't make their stuff region sensitive. The cool thing about this is that you can buy the Japanese lite, have it in English, and play games from whatever country you like.
Leaves hope for anyone who still wants a copy of Phoenix Wright.
The only problem with buying a foreign DS is that you can't register it on mynintendo.

7. You wont be getting one from Lik-Sang any earlier than getting one from Best Buy. They are so back ordered right now, that you'll probably still be on the list even past the release in the USA.

8. Oh well, no more italics. It was fun while it lasted. :)

9. I know that. I was just asking out of curiosity and future reference. I wasn't planning on buying one.

10. Kev, sorry I had to clamp down on your fun. You know how it is - I give you italics, then EVERYONE wants italics. :)

11. hmmm... if it's that backordered, what are the chances of play-asia getting my pre-orderd enamel navy out by the end of March (I pre-ordered on the morning of the 1st, before they stopped taking pre-orders)? Do we have any info on release numbers for the other colors?

Posted at 6:34PM on Mar 2nd 2006 by josh stamell 0 stars

12. Josh: No one can give any concrete info atm. But consider this: I pre ordered from Lik-Sang on the 29th of January, and i stuck with the white, even before the manufacturing delays were announced. I've just received an email from them asking me to pay another 30USD in addition to possibly waiting 'several weeks' until it ships. And they are shipping to a first come, first serve pre order queue.

13. I DEMAND YOU CHANGE YOUR NAME MUCH LIKE THE HIGH LANDER THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE MAVISS AND THAT ONE IS ME!

14. ok, neat and all. But really, when for the US???

the dates shouldn't be drastically far from each other, but with week long delays even from the origin of the product's release (Japan) I get a bad feeling about the availability when it does get here...

Posted at 9:18PM on Mar 2nd 2006 by BRYANXX 0 stars

15. Thanks Matt... wow, at least play-asia hasn't raised their prices yet (we'll see). They did post a fairly informative statement on their site this evening regarding the shortage. According to them, Nintendo is shipping 450,000 units in March, though there is no color breakdown. I guess the best I can do right now is hope and pray... Maybe there won't be the same craziness when the other colors are released, but based on how many people seemed to be turned away today, there probably will be. I guess you're right-- it's just too early to tell.

16. They'll probably all be silver.

17. What are the chances of getting a special-edition gold DS Lite with a Triforce on the top and Miyamoto's handwritten signature on it?

18. New news story - Lost Magic's apparently on the Wifi Site now. http://www.nintendowifi.com/gaminghub/LostMagicDSGamingHub.jsp

19. What does a super card do? It can play homebrew games and game roms that can be downloaded off the internet right.
