After sitting down with Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for a few minutes, we feel the verdict is still out. Granted, we didn't get to sail Wind Waker style with the stylus, and were kicked off early, so take criticism with a grain of salt. The game feels like a traditional top-down Zelda title only you direct Link with a stylus rather than a directional pad. We cruised around a mini dungeon for a bit and could see right away that the game has potential with touch controls.
1-on-1 Battle Mode versus another E3 attendee was a good time. One player guides Link to collect and safely return Triforces to base, while the other controls three "baddies" that try to stop Link from doing so. Though it felt like a rehash from gaming's past, it was fun to play. More to come.

I'd be very surprised if this iteration of the Zelda 'franchise' didn't deliver the goods!

I'm actually looking forward to this title more than Twilight Princess....I like the top-down versions better than the 3d versions.

I'm not expecting Phantom Hourglass to be anywhere near as good as OoT or Wind Waker for that matter and I don't think anyone else does either, but it's still Zelda and it will be good and I will buy it.

Yeah GrantS is right. Top down Zelda is much more enjoyable. The Zelda games for Gameboy have always been great.

From what I hear the game sucks and is extremely difficult to control.
The whole stylus-only control really turns me off. I may not even bother getting it and I'm a hardcore Zelda fan.

I can't stand games that force me to jump through hoops with the stylus. Age of Empires, sure, if I feel like it, that's great to have the option. With Nintendogs, it serves a purpose and you feel like you're getting something out of the experience (petting, washing, etc.).
In a game like Castlevania or Lost Magic, I am resentful that I'm being made to scribble something with a stylus that feels very much like an afterthought. Something that could have been left out and have the game be better for it.
If Final Fantasy feels this way, I won't touch it. End of story.
