Coming off the staggering news that the Nintendo DS is the fastest selling system of all time in Japan, we've got another doozy for you. Here are the current estimated numbers for worldwide sales for Nintendo DS software:
Nintendogs - 7.37 million
Animal Crossing: Wild World - 4.66 million
Mario Kart DS - 4.64 million
New Super Mario Bros - 3.84 million
Super Mario 64 DS - 3.76 million
Brain Training - 3.69 million
Brain Training 2 - 3.11 million
Wario Ware Touched - 1.97 million
Brain Flex - 1.58 million
Tamogotchi Connection: Corner Shop - 1.27 million
Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time - 1.22 million
Tetris DS - 1.19 million
English Training - 1.14 million
Utterly astonishing are the figures for Nintendogs, selling over seven million copies since its release in mid-2005. The best-selling game on Gamecube, Super Smash Bros: Melee, has been around since 2001 and has only managed to sell 6.05 million by comparison. Nintendo is indeed reaching a new audience, and that new audience seems to really like throwing frisbees with a stylus.
[Update 1: Apparently, many people missed the "estimated" at the top of the post. Though compiled by an individual, the numbers appear to be at least decently accurate after cross-referencing several other sources. Take the numbers with a grain of salt, and enjoy the picture of the cute puppy.]

As much as I love my DS, I still do not have Nintendogs... I was holding out for a Cat version, but I doubt it'll ever come out.
Should I give it a try?

Hi, I'm an editor from Portable Review, and I just wanted to tip you off to the fact that these sales are not actually from reputable source such as NPD or Famitsu, but rather from a forum-goer named ioi, who does estimates of how many copies he believes a game has sold. I request that you take this down both for the sake of not damaging your legitimacy and so that this does not get spread.

Apologies! You know that they're estimates.
AKA, not fact.
AKA, not news.
Now I'm just annoyed that you put this up knowing it's not fact anyway, as if this ioi is a professional and has any legitimacy in the industry.

How about you STFU, Nicky?
So they're not PENNY-ACCURATE; as YOU would have them. WHO THE FUCK CARES what YOU think?
They may not be completely accurate. They're estimates. What the fuck ever. But THEY GET THE POINT ACCROSS. They tell us that these games are selling more than other games. If you don't like it then I'm sure that I could speak for several people who will read this when I say...
...STFU and PISS OFF.
Who the FUCK asked you ANYWAY? No one cares what you have to say if you're going to be an arrogant COCK about it. I don't know you from JACK...but I already DON'T LIKE YOU.
You don't have any jurisdiction in this realm...
BE GONE.

Still haven't really played Nintendogs, I want the DS light. Who cares if they are accurate figures or not? What game related website doesn't post speculation, rumors, analyst comments and estimates in the news section or as news? As a gaming blog that posts nothing but info you have a lot of gaps to fill in to keep readers interested (anyone who has ever watched CNN knows what I mean, there is a lot of BS and repeats on a 24 hour news network). There are only so many reliable sources and so much new info on such a specific topic.
Clearly you aren't very professional Nicholas Swenson, or just naive and new to the world of editing and journalism.
Silence all and bring me my fill of Joystiq "news",

geez dude, cool the hell off. his comment kind of irked me too, but god. go run around the block a couple of times. or be quiet.
i'm really interested to see how nintendogs will be worked into SSBB. will they be like pokemon items? having them be playable characters would be awesomely weird.

Also on a more personal note I like how Nicholas Swenson seems to think he's a professional "in the industry" and how his word is so much more valuable than a random forum poster. Honestly man, you may wanna put something on cause that nasty ego of yours is showing.
Yuck,

P.S. Apple pie is good and tasteful, unlike Nicholas Swenson's habbit of flashing people with things they don't want to see or experience.

I agree Atomsk, but I think they'll work like items. Can't imagine having Nintendogs flattening me with fluff, pummeling me with their paws, or casterating me with cuteness.
Maybe it'll be like that sleep pokemon thing, the puppy comes out and they all go awwww and just sit there in a daze, perhaps it disables their ability to guard for a while, or maybe just makes them walking around like fools speaking in cute person-to-puppy gibberish while holding the puppy up agains their face.
Maybe I should lay off the Nintendogs considering I'm a diabetic,

But you have to keep in mind that there are now 4-5 different versions of Nintendogs avaliable now (Chihuahua, Dachshund Shiba/Labrador [depending on region], Dalmation [europe only, coming to AUS and proberly US soon], Best Friends) so of corse it is going to sell far better. If these stats are true (which accroding to above posters they arnt) then they would of only sold an average of 1.5 million copies each, still impressive but not 7.3 million impressive. I am sorry for the excessive use of parenthisis (these things)

Regardless of how many versions there are of the game, Nintendo banked with Nintendogs and the clever idea to have those multiple versions. So everyone... quit trying to steal the puppies' thunder.
And yes, that picture really is adorable. It's like he's high fiving the accountants and saying CHA CHING!

I'm surprised MPH doesn't make an appearance in this list... Any idea what's up with that?
As for Nintendogs in SSMB, I believe they'll be like in the screenshot - a big cute puppy that covers the screen so you can't see a damn thing for a little while.
Obviously, this would make more sense in online play, where the dog could appear on everyone's screen but the person who used the item.
Otherwise I guess it could be some kind of random event that messes up all players equally.

Heh, what a laugh. Ignorance? I'm pushing the concept that I'm more professional than him? At no point have I ever stated that. The only thing I have ever stated was "he is not an analyst, his estimates are no more legitimate than mine".
And as I said - the owner of vgcharts.org said that these aren't EVEN estimates, but shipped figures that he parades as sold.
And ignorance? I don't claim that my word is more reliable than ioi's. But guess what? His word is "these are shipped, not sold". But in the same topic, he refers to them as sold. Christ, you people need to take a chill pill. I point out the fact that this data is incorrect, and isn't even sold figures and you're cussing me out. If there's something wrong with the data on the web site I work on and you tell me so, here's what a professional doesn't do:
Call him a mother ****er and blindly defend their news because they don't want to be wrong
Here's what you do:
Either accept that the data's wrong
Or counter it by arguing - like a professional, not a child.
Cyryl, you have the resolve to make DSFanboy look like a no-talent blog with your childish banter and cussing. If you think your web site is professional, then don't bring it down to the level of garbage by acting like a fool. Do not claim that I am ignorant because first I point out that the author of the list created the numbers by estimation (which he often dows), and then later realize that these aren't even sales figures, but rather shipped figures, and be sure to grow up and act more professional.

Additionally, I noticed the update - particularly, you ever consider looking at Media Create, which shows Brain Training 2 as 400k less than the numbers in this news article? Or, hey, look at NPD and Media Create - about 723k for Japan, about >100k for NA. This would mean that it would have to sell >300k in Europe for it to reach this number, when in fact, it was not even in the EU chart for very long, and never was very high. By the time Nintendo reported that Brain Training had sold 250,000 copies in EU, it had been in the charts longer than Tetris DS, and at a higher ranking too.
And you seem to not be able to grasp something here: SHIPPED. Not estimates, or sold. His estimate is that "these shipped figures are a good idea how much it sold". These are not estimates; I could have done this list.

Mr. Swenson,
Perhaps you were distracted somewhat by an attempt to be unflinchingly professional, but you should note that Cyryl is a commenter, not a writer for this site. If anybody's going to make this place look like a no-talent blog, it'll be the bloggers listed to the right! Thankfully, they're not very good at the no-talent part. Nobody's perfect.
Furthermore, please make up your mind as to whether or not these numbers are estimates. That would greatly help in any future occasions where you choose to drag out a shipped vs. sold debate (that old chestnut) on a public forum. It will also come in handy next time you show up and tell us to take down information from our own blog.
Thanks for reading,
Ludwig
