Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker screens

Dragon Quest, as we all know, is getting a lot of recognition. Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker is shaping up rather well even though we swear we are looking at another episode of Dragon Ball Z every time we get a new screenshot. Doesn't the main character look like Trunks with extra crazy hair?
Too bad Pokemon already grabbed the main concept of the game or DQM:J would really cause a ruckus in this industry. We realize that not everything similar to Pokemon can be traced back to it but you have to admit the similarities are present.
Joker doesn't have a set release date for Japan and who really knows if we will see it stateside. It would be a nice change of pace for Pokemon lovers or haters.

The characters should look similar - same character designer for Dragonball and Dragon Quest (Still playing #8!)

They are similar, but the Dragon Quest Monsters series has been around for almost as long as the Pokémon series. Given that, it's kind of hard to tell whether it was just a Pokémon knock-off at the time or it was inspired by something else (maybe the Shin Megami Tensei series).
Either way, the other games in the series are great and were leaps and bounds ahead of Pokémon, offering things like breeding, massive amounts of monsters (500+ in the first one, I think), and randomly generated areas (making it far more replayable), all while Pokémon was still laying the groundwork with Blue and Red. Here's hoping that this one is just as great as the originals were.

This game will be the Dragon Quest VIII of The NDS. I cannot wait for this game to be released, it constantly looks better and better! Right now I'm still excited for Slime Mori Mo- er, Rocket Slime.
