We know -- you're thinking of FFX-2, which was not exactly a hit (though beautiful, which is par for the Final Fantasy course). However, instead of a direct sequel, this looks more like a related story designed to take advantage of the handheld, which continues to crush all competition in Japan.
We emphasize that details are incredibly thin at this time and all of the above is subject to change. Right now, we have a title -- Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings -- and a platform, and a hint of the story, which centers around FFXII's hero, Vaan, and air pirates.
Which means airships. We're sold!

XII is 12 - This is a game with a side story to Final Fantasy 12 not X-2.

@graham,
FFXII is out in Japan and there are several American previews floating around already, so suprises are unlikely.
@Geoff Baker,
Alisha was referencing to X-2, not saying XII = X-2. She was saying FFXII: Revernant Wings is a spin off of FFXII, not a sequel like FFX-2 was.
That said, this isn't too surprising. FFXII is based on the world introduced in FF Tactics Advanced, which was a GBA game. Even if they aren't related storywise, they are connected. I hope Nintendo gets a cut of the multiple FFXIII games.

The Ivalice in FFXII is the same world as the original FFT, while FFTA Ivalice is a fictional world within the original Ivalice.

How was FFX-2 "not exactly a hit"? It was great game, topped the charts in Europe, America and nearly sold as much as FFX in Japan.....

Oh god, another sequel to a Final Fantasy game... I don't like the sound of it, mainly because X-2 was a disaster. People only bought it because it was the sequel to X (which was a fantastic game), only to find it was a load of crap.

Thanks for clarifying that, Probot -- that's exactly it.
X-2 was pretty and shiny all but, but I even have a secret girly-girl side I try to hide, and yet the inane fluff of the game just killed my interest in it. They managed to make me seriously dislike characters I'd cared about before, and I know I'm not alone in that. Lots of people bought the game out of love for FFX and then wanted to open their veins after playing it.
If you liked it, more power. Different strokes.
