Unless you've been living in a hole in the Arctic, you probably heard a little something about the redone Final Fantasy III that was recently released. All in all, it's a beautiful reimagining -- and reimaging -- of a solid, but not universally beloved game.But what if someone did spruce up one of those older games that drive us crazy even now? As soon as word of the new Final Fantasy III hit the streets, fans immediately started speculating about other Final Fantasy titles, but what about games outside the FF oeuvre? What game would you like to see given a spit-shine and a fresh coat of paint? The characters of FFIII gained new life and personality (even names), and certainly there are a few other old school heroes who could benefit from similar treatment. What would you like to see?

Chrono Trigger, Chrono Trigger, and Chrono Trigger.
And did I mention Chrono Trigger?

as much as i loev redone games like ffiii.
game graphics goes along the lines of a sense of nostalgia. sometimes it's better to leave them alone.
some games i would loev to see rereleased.
mother 1-3 on ds in one cartridge (in english) but the sprucing up of graphics would dissapoint me.
anyways, remake of... whatever the companies want, cause i'll buy them in a heartbeat like ffiii.

There's something about the original four Dragon Warrior games that the newer titles just haven't captured. I can't imagine that DW1 would bring in as much money as FF3 (though I'd be in line to buy it on day one), but maybe DW4. Or even better - how much memory would it take to put all four games on one cartridge?

I second Chrono Trigger (or fifth it?). Also Monkey Island because I can't be bothered to figure out homebrew ScummVM. And while not a "classic" title per se, I would say that Skies of Arcadia needs needs *needs* the DS treatment.

Chrono Trigger gets my vote too!
You can run it on the ds using SnezziDS, a snes emulator, but the sound is screwed. You can turn sound off but I'm waiting for this to get fixed before I start playing it again.
I have no idea why they never released this game for the gba. Who wouldn't buy this?

I'd like to see a revamp of ActRaiser... It's one of those action/-building games that I always loved as a kid. Throw in some touch screen action for the map view portions of the game, and I'd be in like Flynn. The soundtrack to that game was totally titties.

My list:
Final Fantasy VIII(yes, eight)->Wii
Metal Gear Ghost Babel (GBC)->DS
Castlevania: Rondo of Blood(PCEngine) -> DS (maybe even try for 3d)
Put an OutRun(arcade or Xbox) on the DS
Marathon (Mac) -> DS (hey, I can dream)

The problem with remaking games on the DS is that you either get 2D graphics that are possibly not that much better than the original (for 16-bit games) or 3D graphics that just... get the job done. As much as I love it, the DS is not the ideal platform for graphical upgrades.
NES games can benefit from the DS's power. Even though I like 8-bit graphics, I wouldn't mind seeing a collection of the NES Castlevanias with upgraded graphics (or not!) saving capability, and, of course, the old DS standby of a map screen.

I like Dennis013's list, from the looks of it another reader with an Amiga heritage. I think there is one he's missed though: Virus.
You control a little 3D craft in the game entirely with mouse gestures. It would translate perfectly to the DS (just ask anyone who's played it).

To go along with post #4 above, I second the Dragon Warrior motion. Seeing as how they put DW I & II on one GBC cart, I can't image it would be hard to put all 4 on one DS cart. Giving it the spruced-up FFIII treatment would be awesome, along with bitchin' stereo sound! I've been playing DW I all over again recently using my Gameboy Player on my Gamecube, even though I still have an original Dragon Warrior cart for my NES (I'm not even sure the save battery still works). I don't think I'll ever sell my Gamecube unless someone figures out a way to play your own GB/GBC/GBA roms on the Wii (homebrew FTW!).

Chrono Trigger also gets my vote!
And, of course, Final Fantasy VI would make me squee... Remade like FF3DS, none of this direct port stuff. With added new stuff.
FFVII might be a little beyond the DS's capabilities, which would be a shame...
In the end though, I'd love to see more DS RPGs that were closely modelled on the golden days of SNES RPGs - original games, sequels, spinoffs... To have a reneissance of that era would be great.

A remake of FFTactics with multiplayer, additional job classes and additional, extra hard, side quests.
Doesn't need a graphical update, but it wouldn't hurt as long as it was done well.

I second ActRaiser as long as it's the FIRST game with all the simulation elements included. And the perfectly awesome soundtrack.
Um, Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6 on principle. Since we're on Squenix throw in Secret of Mana (with wireless multiplayer for all 3 characters), Secret of Evermore and the first 3 Dragon Warrior/Quest games, Soul blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma. Oh, and 7th Saga for all you masochists out there.
Any good LucasArts point and click (for should I say "poke and tap") adventure game. Hell, the ScummVM team has done 50% of the work FOR them by emulating the originals.
That's all I can think of for now.

I'd love to see Mario RPG and Day the Tentacle make a come back... maybe even something older... like a Zack McCracken and the Alien Mindbenders... you know, only good and stuff. Point and click stuff... Hotel Dusk shouldn't have all the fun. (Yay, Maniac Mansion!)

Chrono Trigger immediatley comes to mind, as well as Super Mario RPG. Both of those games are quite a pain to get, unless you want to take the illegal route.
I would also really like to see Link's Awakening and the Oracle games with updated graphics. Hell, they could probably squeeze in updated versions of LOZ and The Adventure of Link, too. Zelda Allstars if-you-will.
