Before Touch Detective hit shelves, we were obsessed with it -- the dark, unique look, the intriguing characters ... we couldn't get enough! The game itself, however, didn't really deliver; there was too much going on to enjoy Mackenzie's wackiness on the top screen, and the puzzles were less-than-optimal.
And yet ... faced with a sequel ... we're back on the love train. We can't help it. It must be the rapidly multiplying shape of Mackenzie's sidekick, Funghi, shown in the opening movie. He's hypnotic and we're powerless before him. We love the music, we love the wacky parade of characters, and when the localized sequel lands near us, we'll probably pick it up again and hope for the best.
Sometimes, even knowing better just doesn't matter in the face of pretty, pretty art.

I feel the exact same way. For some reason I want it to kick ass even though the first disappointed. With most other sucky games that got a sequel I'd just shun it, but it's like this one has some strange power.

I actually liked the first touch detective, but I know what you guys mean. I feel the same way about Death Jr.. I bought the first one on PSP (gasp!) and it sucked really bad, and then the second one came out and I was really excited because I wanted it to be good, and it sucked but slightly less than the first. Then it came out on DS and I was really excited again, even though I had been burned before. But I learned my lesson this time and instead of pre-ordering it for the stylus scythe (which might have still made it worth it) I waited for it to come out and read the reviews (which again weren't very favorable).
It's like the characters and the art are so interesting that you really want it to be good. I wish they could just back it up with a good game.

The game, overall was aimed at kids, so yeah... The puzzles weren't very hard for someone maybe 2x the age range they were looking for, but the game was brilliant, the art was fantastic, the music was wonderful, the story was so zaney and loopy that anyone of any age could enjoy it, yes, even you hardcore GTA fan with the biggin' up 'spect yo!
But in seriousness, the second game looks great and I'll definatly be picking it up.
