When we saw the Call of Duty 4 video, we immediately thought about the possibilities for FPS titles on the DS. Sure, we've received a Quake-style title in Metroid Prime Hunters, but the controls cause our hand to cramp up pretty quickly. We never got a chance to check out Brothers in Arms, but other than that, what is there?Do you think the system can't possibly expect to see a quality FPS title in its future? Do you think Call of Duty 4 could pave the way for future entries in the genre on the handheld?

Protip: When playing Metroid, sit down. Place DS on your lap/leg. Tilt the screen forward so you can see it. Let the weight of the DS rest on your leg so you aren't trying to support the system all in one hand.

Wasn't there some kind of perfect dark or golden eye game early on in the DS lifespan?

There was a James Bond Golden Eye: Rogue Agent. It really really sucks. It's a license game that has nothing to do with the N64 classic.

The thing is the DS is better suited for so many other, more innovative, and in my opinion, more fun types of games than first-person shooters. It could be a super platform for them if people had three arms though.

Rogue Agent for me was like a 'proof of concept' that run & gun shooters will work on the PSP. It also had a nice 'snap-turn' feel that I love in PC games like No One Lives Forever. Aside from that it was junk.
I loved MPH.
Brothers in Arms was really pretty good - much better than I expected.
So I'm very much anticipating CoD4 ... and future FPS for the DS.

Well, I can play Metroid Prime Hunters for about an hour before I had hand cramps (even though I have big hands and a DS Lite) So I personally think there should be more FPS' on the DS like MPH. Just with more players online (Maybe like 6 people total or something would be great) However, I think the Wii is better suited to FPS' than the DS, but no developer has the stones (besides Nintendo) to make any quality FPS' on the Wii.

Very well dun, and a truly good FPS on DS, thought it can get bad framerate at times, that will probably be improved on in later versions.

Brothers in Arms was pretty good; the AI is dumb as hell, but the game is pretty good.

Let me second the Bionicle Heroes game.
Suprisingly, it's a really fun old-school single-player shooter.
You can get it for cheap, too.

The rumored official ID quake project sounds fun, even if it isn't going to use MPH style controls. Personally the touchscreen is the first control system I've been happy to play FPS on other than the almighty mouse/keyboard combo. Long live FPS on DS.

Does anyone remember the touchscreen joystick on Rayman DS? If you placed one of those on the opposite side of the screen, you have a 360-esque controller. I think it would work very well :)
