DS Daily: Romantic entanglements

We happened across this article a while back and have been thinking about it ever since. We hear -- and talk -- a lot about romance and gaming, and this piece on couples who meet in virtual worlds was intriguing. After all, Nintendo's online service is probably the only one that makes this sort of hook-up close to impossible. The other consoles have not just games with immersive worlds, but also more flexible meet-and-message systems. Heck, even the lowly PS2 plays host to Vana'diel for many FFXI players (as do other consoles).

Nintendo can certainly bring people together through a common love of something great, but it probably won't be online, at least for now. But are any of you lucky enough to have found someone who loves Nintendo as much as you do? Sure, maybe we have to meet our significant others in meatspace, but we can still share something in our mutual love of great games.

While we didn't meet in any Nintendo related way (we did meet online however), my wife an a nintendo fan-girl. She is on her second DS (we had to upgrade once the Lites came out), and has played a sickening amount of Oundan / Elite Beat, has a whole bunch of Yoshi merch including a remote control kart, bobble head, slot cars and shirts. We usually have a game that we play together, and up until two weeks ago (with the release of Warhawk) they have always been Gamecube/Wii games.

I met my fiance online as well, also in a non-Nintendo-related way (though still at a gaming forum!). We both have DSes (he bought me my first as a Christmas present), play the occassional game together, and stood (mostly sat, actually) in line for the Wii at launch. Right now, he's really gotten into Zelda, and I've been helping out while he plays Twilight Princess. And we can't wait for Super Mario Galaxy!

Well..my relationship is a bit unorthodox, as I have not one, but two men in my life. The fun part about this is that I met them both through gaming, though sadly not through my DS! I met my 'hubby' through EverQuest just over four years ago, and I met my fiance' through Ragnarok Online just under a year ago --- and both are severe Nintendo enthusiasts, just like myself. The three of us have a really stellar relationship in general, but having such a strong common interest really makes things fun. The three of us + my younger brother all like to spend a great deal of time playing MarioKart DS together or Pokemon D/P & Battle Revolution. We're seriously a Nintendo family, and it's definitely a Nintendo romance -- the first present that I ever bought for my hubby was a GameCube, and the 1st present my fiance' ever gave me was his mint-condition N64 with about 8 games for Valentine's Day (because my younger brother finally killed mine, sadly). If that isn't love, I don't know what is.
