Nikitova Games, who works on licensed games such as Casper Scare School, has announced two original projects for the DS and Wii. One is Mind Games, which is ... some training thing. But the other one, CCTV, sounds pretty neat! The game seems to involve watching security footage and picking out perpetrators from a crowd, as well as X-raying luggage in an airport. The game's description hints at more tasks: "... this fast paced game of observation, identification & interrogation." Success gets you promoted from mall security up to "international head of security".
We're glad to see an original game idea, and we're always happy when a developer of licensed games moves on to something more ambitious -- even if it's a more ambitious licensed game. We're also thrilled to see a game based on watching security cameras, if only because it reminds us of Night Trap. Maybe with the security camera gimmick used for something other than delivering FMV, a good game can come from the idea!

Yeah, there's more than one thing here creeping me out. Training legions of kids to work low-paying government security jobs in the near future, teaching kids that CCTV is fun or an everyday thing and not to be confused with an obscene intrusion of privacy or anything. The constant monitoring of our lives is acceptable so don't freak out about the rising police state.
You know, that whole Orwellian thing that used to be a bad thing but thanks to what he called "newspeak" is evolving into a "good" thing.
I know it's just a video game and I know they just want to make a profit but whether this is indicative of active manipulation or a symptom of ongoing public manipulation I'm still clinging to my rifle and holding back the vomit in my mouth.

Does Midnight Club train kids to think that illegal street racing is okay? Does Mario train kids to think that jumping on heads and breaking walls is okay? Does Contra teach kids that it's fun to shoot thousands of people and walk around with no shirt on? Have you attempted to cast Blizzaga on anything? Etc.

You know, I know an awful lot of idiots. I'm friends with more than one person who after viewing Fast and the Furious or playing any racing game honestly did go off and begin driving recklessly. When asked why they would answer, "seemed like fun."
Take a kid grown and raised in a criminal family like some of these "urban" 12 year olds. Their perception is skewed. Not all of them but enough of them that some 8 year olds raped a girl two weeks ago.
Start replacing independence driven media and themes with "government is your friend" media and themes and it will have a lasting effect for generations. It only took one generation of Communism in schools to get the Soviet Union going. It's only taken one generation of being educated by the taxing authority to train Americans that sunshine wouldn't be possible without taxation and now the whole nation screams for greater taxation.
Maybe I give people too little credit but you certainly give them too much. Many are born sheep and will die as sheep.

This seriously sounds like fun if implemented well, cops and robbers for a new age. Though it does sound like something one sends of coupons in the Daily Mail to do.

Looks like a cool idea for a game. I'd check it out.
I would tend to believe that all the "'urban' 12 year olds raised in criminal families" you're so worried about wouldn't be buying a DS and CCTV.
If I were among this group, I would imagine myself buying games like GTA, learning how to deal drugs and kill prostitutes, to expands my career choices...especially if my unruly gang of 8 year olds goes around raping girls.
