Horror of horrors -- last night, while vacuuming, someone in the house (read: not your current writer!) stripped the cable of the DS Lite charger. After the tears and accusations, it occurred to us that hinge cracks and falls aren't the only accidents that can befall our beloved handhelds. Anything similar happen to yours? We know lost games can be a problem, and we've heard about lost styli. Tell us about the worst things that have happened to your handhelds. What did you do? We'll be calling Nintendo today and hoping some kind soul will send a new charger over.

The worst thing that happened to me so far was when the L button suddenly stopped working : no more mario kart, no more tetris, no more meteos, no more zelda... very very annoying. In despair, I tried the good old gameboy/nes trick : after having more or less risen the button, I just blew very strongly in it, which proved to work !

Decided to start riding my bicycle to work; where I go, so does my gameboy. I went over a bump and my SP flew from my pocket and was crushed beneath my tire...

Speaking of charger cables, our pet rabbit got to one of our DS Lite ones. Fortunately, we put electrical tape on it and got it out of his sight before he did too much damage! He sure loves them cables.

This stripped wire can't be so bad... Can't a little electric tape fix it or is the wire more severed than the picture makes it out to be?
The top screen of my DS broke with no apparent nor recallable reason: it would turn on fine, but would not display the graphics intended by the software (would remain white or fill with colored horizontal lines). The worst part is that it happened at the airport, at the beginning of a week-long trip. So long, DS recreation and solace from the weariness of being away from home.

A similar thing happened to me with my DS phat.
I was at school and I went to 3 classes I think, took my DS out of my pocket and I dident look at my screen. I came back from lunch and looked at it, and it looked just as you described. Colored lines and crazy discoloration. I knew that the warrenty would not cover it and my only explination would be is it got hot and melted but I very much doubt that happened but I know I dident crack it or anything because I dident apply anything but normal force to it.

I mentioned that, but the man of the house freaked out about me being electrocuted or something, because he's crazy.

The only reason I even have a DS Lite is because I accidentally bodyslammed my DS Phat into a frozen door when trying to open it. I didn't realize it was in my pocket until it was too late.

WHOA!
I mean, uhhh... Maybe you could do what anyone else would do and either wrap some electrical tape around "the wound" or get your butt in the car to Target and drop $10 on a new one.
Slow news day? ;-)

The only thing I've done is shatter the battery door on my old GBA somehow. Costed a whole $1.00 from the Nintendo Store to replace it. Also, my GBA SP needed a $4.25 part right from the start due to the worst design ever! No headphone jack on a portable, what on Earth were they thinking?

My cat chewed through the cord of my DS/GBA charger. When I went to purchase a new one, he chewed through that one too within 15 minutes of me opening it.

My mom's DS phat no longer recognizes any touch screen input more complex than a straight line. Now it's taking her three times as long to do anything on Phantom Hourglass.

I've gone through a dozen chargers in the last two years due to a cat who likes to chew on cords. She's a blasted cord Pirahnna.

As a phat owner, I lost my Stylus a few months ago. I can't seem to find these things ANYWHERE in stores, and I don't really want to pay $5 shipping online for something that costs less than that.
My current setup is a broken golf tee with some soft melted plastic on the tip. It works suprisingly well, but it just isn't the same.

The worst story? Hmm...here goes nothing. So I set my DS lite to charge up on my counter one day and my parents happend to put a big box of canned coke on top of the charger. I wanted to take my partially (but, still worked better then my regular. It only had a small missing peace that reveiled a metal bar) broken DS lite out of there so I can up with the most noligable plan I could think of (Sarcasm.) I tugged on the wire of the charger until my Lite went flying across the room It was detached partially from itself and had a few more issues. After a few months of waiting though about 2 weeks ago I sent it in to Nintendo for 75 bucks plus a 7.52 dollar shipping fee. I am expsecting to come soon.
Here are the pics to prove it:

my white lite rolled out under the seat of an airplane, never to be seen again, unbeknownst to me at the time.
luckily I was generous enough to have just on a whim given my girlfriend my nicer/intact (the white one had a broken on switch) black ds lite to take home with her, else it would have been gone also.
also lost were New super mario bros and a flash cart for homebrew - again my abounding generosity had led to her having the arkanoid ds import + paddle.

My girlfriend knocked over a glass of wine onto her DS. It seemed ok at first, but about an hour later, it wouldn't turn on, and I noticed that some wine got into the D pad! I left it alone for a few days, and put it by a heater, but it still refused to power on. So I ended up buying a tri-wing screwdriver, taking the whole thing apart, and giving the motherboard a rubbing alcohol bath and q-tip scrub. I then held it under a hair dryer for a few minutes, slapped it back together, crossed my fingers, and slid the on switch. Success! It's been re-animated for a couple weeks now, and still working fine!
