Have the prices affected your decision, if you were previously planning to grab one? Or have the reports of rarity, which are helping to drive those high prices, accelerated the decision process?

You all want one and can't afford it. Relax, it's just a game. For me, it's worth paying extra to get it a year early. The DSi will not launch in the U.S. until fall of 2009. It's worth it for the access to the Japanese Nintendo store alone, the selection there is amazing. The Game Boy Camera was also pretty damn fun, I would love an update to that. Maybe it will be like a portable Mario Paint?

I think the enhancements aren't that bad really. The idea of downloads onto SD card to play virtual console and DSi-ware on the go makes me want the DSi. And I like the idea of listening to music and occasionally taking a picture or using it to view pictures. However, paying $300 for it is ridiculous. I'll just have to be patient until it releases in the US.

I just can't sink money into this. I just got my DS Lite about 2 years now. It just doesnt make sense to dump it for something that is essential the same thing. I will just take the money and buy games for my DS and Wii. I may get it when it comes on in the states but I just can't break my bank to get it now.

Apple comes out with minor upgrades all the times. People still buy that crap.
The same will happen with this. However I consider the fact that you can change games on this system without turning it off a HUGE upgrade.

Who in their right mind will go and spend $300 for a Partial upgrade, when you could use that same money for almost any other console, including a Wii? My God.

Is DSFanboy just going to run posts every day about how stupid the DSi is until we all agree as a community that we like it when it finally comes out in a year?
Does the Weblogs Inc. Network get paid by Nintendo?

I agree, all these dsi hate articles are annoying as hell. I'll probably steer clear of DSFanboy for a while.

I don't think I'm insulting the DSi by saying it costs three hundred dollars to buy one. I think that's what we call a "fact," and one that may have bearing on people's decision-making process.

I took your language to imply a dig, while not at the DSi itself, at Japanese exporters for marking the price waaaayyy up.
That, or I have simply mistaken blogging for journalism again. I suppose I should stop expecting bloggers to have even an iota of journalistic ability, when the internet is all about conspiracy theories and the self-importance of the reader. I apologize.

Oh come on, you've been whining over and over about the friggin' gba slot. backwards compatibility helps when a system has a weak selection of games, but the ds is a big boy now, it can stand on it's own merit. and besides, the back compatibility wasn't that great to begin with.(no multiplayer, gbc/original game boy games didn't work, e-reader only worked with the lite)
I also have to believe anyone who loves the game boy advance that much has at least one other device that can play them.(there's even a portable dvd player with a gba slot for god's sake)
as for the slot 2 accessories, there's really nothing so good that you should be upset about losing them.(again, anyone who cares probably already has a phat/lite that can make use of them anyway)

Hey.
I'm importing it.
Moreover, I'm importing one for my fiancée as well.
Why? Because we enjoy Nintendo products, and understand that not every awesome game is going to come to the US. I also understand that Nintendo of America has basically stood up and said "Despite the overwhelming success of the Apple App Store, we think it's a crock of shit." I don't want to waste time waiting for this to come to the US, and then bemoan my fate when I can't play something or do something. I would rather drop the extra cash now, enjoy my toy for about a half year or more before anyone else, and know that, despite everything, I'm going to have fun. That's what Nintendo's best at. Having fun.
I won't protest the constant re-posting of these type of articles, but if we can keep the unnecessary flame wars out of the threads, that'd be super.

I'm still not entirely clear, are there going to be any games that only run on the DSi? I have no interest in replacing my DS, so I hope that isn't the case.

Holy crap i just realized that there are 3 lights in the corner of the system instead of 2!
And I may buy a dsi when it comes to NA. Then my Lite will be good for guests.

Considering Nintendo has nothing to do with this price tag it's confusing how many people are acting like they are overpricing it.

....Also considering that people are reacting to the JAPANESE price, as well. The DSi will not cost 200$ USD. It will probably cost 200$ CAD, but that's just because nothing makes sense in Canada.

that price will drastically drop within the first week of release and continue to normalize. happens with every single import system. interesting though, that i picked up my orginal japanese ds lite for way less from ncsx upon release...not sure why importers think this one will be more desirable.

I'll wait for a US release. The region lock removed any chance I would import it.
Can we just relax, folks? It's just games. People are cussing at each other, calling out the bloggers, etc. I know it's nothing new to the internet, but can't we, as a community, try to be better than that? Sometimes reading the comments makes me not want to visit here anymore.

The DSi makes me think back to the 16-bit era when an incredible company called Sega dethrowned the giant Nintendo and then squandered it away with expensive marginally improved hardware that only served to split the userbase (and dev base) and thoroughly confuse customers.
(That's not to say I didn't love the Sega CD; though the library of games is small, there are some unbelievable games -- HOTA, Lunar 1 & 2, etc.)
