Death Note imported, reviewed

Gamebrink got an import copy of Death Note in and in running it through their rigorous gauntlet they subject all review titles to, it turns out they gave it a pretty decent score. We're going to neglect mentioning anything specifically about the game, for those of you who don't want the game spoiled for you, instead pointing to the game's graphics, sound and replay value as being what they most liked about it. In contrast, they really don't have anything hugely negative to say about the game.

DS releases for the week of February 12th

After last week's flood, it looks like DS owners are back down to a trickle of releases, but importers take note -- there's all sorts of hotness in Japan this week. The three Japanese releases are definitely games to watch. While we drool and dream over those, gamers in Europe can finally get in on some 3-on-3 basketball action, Mario-style.

Scribble this down: fresh Death Note trailer

A new trailer for Death Note has hit You Tube, furthering our excitement for this odd game. Well, perhaps the game isn't so odd, it's the source material. See, it all revolves around Light Yagami, who finds a notebook imbued with the power of death. By writing names into the notebook, those people find themselves dead soon after. Of course, he decides to use the notebook for good to rid the world of criminals, however the police are hot on his trail and suspect he is a serial killer. Good stuff, if you ask us.

Death Note DS trailer [update 1]

Death Note
, a game based on a manga that may or may not make it outside of Japan, looks to be shaping up swimmingly from the new trailer on Konami's site. The story is also the subject of an anime series that has just started in Japan, and if that makes it to the U.S., the game may as well.

The story revolves around high school student Light Yagami who finds a notebook imbued with the power of death. All he has to do is write down a name ... and they die. He begins a crusade to rid the world of criminals, while at the same time the police are crusading to find him, as they believe he is a serial killer. While we're usually a little skeptical about licensed games, the story seems to suit the nature of the DS, and the art style of the series makes for a beautiful game setting, so we're hanging on to a shred of hope for this one. Check out the trailer, which is linked near the bottom of the Konami page.

[Update 1: To clarify: yes, the manga has been translated into English. We just wonder (and hope!) if the game will be. Sorry for any confusion on that one!]

DeathNote DS

So called "normal people" may not exactly jump at the opportunity to have the power to kill whoever you want by writing their name on a piece of paper. Well, what if you could use that power for good and kill criminals or general bad-doers in the world to make it a better place? Such is the plot to the popular anime DeathNote.

If you are already familiar with and consider yourself a fan of the series, this will be music to your ears. DeathNote is coming to the DS.

Not a whole lot has been talked about when it comes to this game but we are speculating that the player writes, using the stylus, the name of the person needing to be killed.

We also imagine that you will be taking control of the demons summoned by the deathnotes. We'll have more when there is more to tell. Until then, this might be a good chance to check out the series and see if getting the game would be worth it.
