Death Note, a game based on a manga that may or may not make it outside of Japan, looks to be shaping up swimmingly from the new trailer on Konami's site. The story is also the subject of an anime series that has just started in Japan, and if that makes it to the U.S., the game may as well.
The story revolves around high school student Light Yagami who finds a notebook imbued with the power of death. All he has to do is write down a name ... and they die. He begins a crusade to rid the world of criminals, while at the same time the police are crusading to find him, as they believe he is a serial killer. While we're usually a little skeptical about licensed games, the story seems to suit the nature of the DS, and the art style of the series makes for a beautiful game setting, so we're hanging on to a shred of hope for this one. Check out the trailer, which is linked near the bottom of the Konami page.
[Update 1: To clarify: yes, the manga has been translated into English. We just wonder (and hope!) if the game will be. Sorry for any confusion on that one!]

The Manga is amazing. If they do 1/2 as good with the game it will be a must have!

The manga's already out. It's on sale at http://store.shonenjump.com. And yes, it's in English (the good stuff, not the 'a winner is you' type).

I meant there's no telling if the game will get released in English... let me go clarify that post. That was totally my bad with the sentence structure.

so what the hell kind of game will this be? I mean, I only saw the first episode of death note, but its about a guy who writes people's names in a book and then they die. so that translates to ...what, exactly? A first person beat-em-up? an action puzzler? a dungeon crawling rpg? a game where you ... uh ... write people's names with the stylus ....and they, uh, die?
