Alas and alack! Team-DSX, the doujin developer behind Half-Elf Tentacle Assault has announced that it has canceled the homebrew hentai game. You'll have to get your half-elf-assaulting kicks elsewhere!
According to media reports, the preparation committee behind comic convention Comiket -- where Team-DSX was expected to debut and sell the title -- declined the developer's registration for the event. The group has since taken down its official page and posted an apology for the cancellation at its blog.
Presumably, the Comiket rejection was due to Team-DSX's publicization that the game's ROM requires a flashcart. In fact, the developer went so far as to distribute double-sided flyers promoting Half-Elf Tentacle Assault on one side and advertising an R4 distributor on the other.
And so it goes, the lewd game has disappeared just as quickly and as quietly as it slithered into our lives, wrapping its slimy tendrils around our limbs and devastating our orifices, promising, "I'll call you sometime," before taking its leave. We'll spend a week waiting by the phone for that call, but we won't be surprised when it never comes.
Looking to satisfy the legions of perverts interested in its upcoming homebrew release, Half-Elf Tentacle Assault, doujin-developer Team-DSX has posted a potential design for the game's CD-ROM cover -- to cut down on costs, the group plans to release the ROM on CDs instead of traditional carts, so that customers can transfer the game to their flashcarts.
The screenshots featured on the packaging give you a good idea of what to expect from the visual novel (if the Half-Elf Tentacle Assault name wasn't descriptive enough) and are, naturally, very NSFW. Even with stars and white spots covering all the naughty bits on the images, we've hidden the cover past the post break, away from chaste eyes.
Just one last quick caution -- the boxart depicts half-elf Colin and another heroine in suggestive scenes of forced sodomy. Also, a green pig-man with killer abs has his head totally slashed off. You've been warned!
A Japanese doujin circle called Team-DSX has created a retail hentai game for the DS -- sort of. Half-Elf Tentacle Assault is unequivocally hentai -- even the preview image for the visual novel is NSFW in multiple places.
The "retail" description is a bit more controversial (for certain values of "controversy"). They're selling the game at Comic Market (Comiket) for 1,980 yen ($18.70) on a CD; to play it, (shifty-eyed, mouth-breathing) buyers then transfer it over to a DS flash card.
The distribution model is innovative and neat for the DS: even though the "homebrew game on CD" sale could only work at Comiket, anything that lets "unofficial" DS developers make money from their works is a good thing. Except for the poor half-elves.
Gainax's (Neon Genesis Evangelion) Princess Maker series seems harmless at first, a cute "life simulator" in which you raise an orphaned girl to womanhood. The dominant/submissive undertones in the games aren't obvious until you realize the absolute control you have over every aspect of your devoted ward's life.
You can train her in combat to have her fight at the Harvest Festival, put her on a diet so that she can wear fashionable outfits, or send her to work at a bar to raise her "Sinfulness" stat while lowering her "Morals."
Depending on your guidance, your daughter can grow up to be the queen, lead an army, or marry the butler. If you raise her wrong, however, as we assume many gamers will do intentionally, she could become the king's concubine, work as a sleazy barmaid, or even marry her adoptive father!
Originally released for PCs and the PSP in 2006, Princess Maker 4 is also coming to the DS with a Special Edition subtitle this September in Japan. Publisher Cyberfront has a few improvements and additions planned for the port -- three new endings, stat details moved to the bottom screen, and, of course, touchsceen support.
According to the official site, using your stylus, you can "pat your daughter's head, pinch her cheeks, and etc." Etc., indeed. Try out a very brief and somewhat NSFW demo after the post break!

Homebrew developers, however, have no such concerns, and have released pornographic projects that no commercial game could ever get away with. New screens of SNK's awkward adventure sequel Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo have revealed three new characters: another angel who will compel Akuji to annoy and prod girls in his ongoing witch hunt, and ... another girl, no doubt to be annoyed and prodded. Also some guy!
The bespectacled angel Senome comes from the same angel world as Lulu and the demonic-looking Kuro, and keeps up on the latest angel-world news via "Angelnet." Which sounds rather like SNK is portraying her as an angel Internet nerd. Cute!
Seiji is a school friend of Akuji's who is, for some reason, unpopular. Also he may be a girl, because we can't tell sometimes.
The (obvious) girl, Himeki, is a self-styled reporter who carries a camera around to document everything she sees. She becomes interested in the reports of supernatural activity on campus, though something tells us she will soon wish she had not investigated it.
Since Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo is risqué in its essence, we're not surprised that the boxart would also be rather ... bold. The blue bar that wraps its way around the cover lets perusers of the box see through the girls' clothes, hence the assaulted looks on their faces.
The girl on the left used quick reflexes to cover herself up, while the girl on the right only had a sliver of indecency exposed. The girl in the middle, though? Not so lucky -- not even because her breasts were displayed for gaming consumers to see, but because she has no nipples. Maybe she's related to the guys in Duel Love? Or, maybe that's how you go about proving she's a witch.
In all seriousness, we don't expect SNK to put nipples on the front of the box. Maybe they should have gone with a different design, though, so that the girls wouldn't look like ... well, freaks. Still, we know most guys aren't too picky when it comes to this kind of thing, and will enjoy the opportunity to stylus-poke the ladies of the game nonetheless. Oh, and the little pointing hand in the bottom right says "touch," lest your forget your task.
The first Doki Doki Majo Shinpan game, in addition to hiding witch emblems on young girls' bodies, also featured a hundred instances of a "Reverse Panda" character. Finding these in the game's environments unlocked extra material. This aspect of the game didn't get discussed much, because despite the endangered status of the giant panda, the Reverse Panda is nowhere near as controversial as the rest of the game.
It's back in Doki Doki Majo Shinpan 2 Duo, and this time it's joined by Usamaru, a rabbit in a kimono. It's nice to talk about this game in non-skeezy terms for once.
Oh, SNK also revealed two more girls: a shy student and a maid. There are also new screens of the battle mode, in which you fight these girls. The battle mode seems to have been expanded and altered, with multiple abilities to choose from.
If you don't mind watching your game trailers taped from a crowded store in Akihabara, you might want to check out this video of Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo (posted after the break due to its NSFW nature). Who knows, you may be especially interested in the game knowing that you can poke two different sets of girls if you buy the super expensive limited edition bundle.

The ancillary gameplay is preserved from the original title: look around a school environment, and, in action sequences. use the stylus to bat energy attacks back at antagonistic teenage witches. Of course, the most famous, pseudo-hentai gameplay element is also there: inspecting girls with the stylus in a search for emblems that reveal their status as witches.

Those of you who keep current with loli homebrew news might recognize this image from when it first made its rounds on gaming blogs last February. While the photo implied that someone was working on a DS port for Hizashi no Naka no Riaru (In the Afternoon Sunshine), an H-game from mu soft, we haven't seen a playable version pop up until now. As a bonus item, Japanese retailer Sofmap is including a collectors' edition box with copies of Izuna 2. The box features artwork of scantily-clad Izuna and Shino relaxing at an onsen, and is designed to mirror the appearance of PC eroge (hentai games.) No, Izuna 2 isn't a hentai game. But it does star female characters with whom plenty of otaku are no doubt obsessed.
Publisher Success is partly making fun of eroge, we think, and simultaneously serving and mocking any prurient interest in their characters. Can you imagine an American game made to look like pornography for the purpose of sales? But it's different in Akihabara, where apparently you wouldn't want to be caught dead buying just a DS game and no porn.
SNK's Doki Doki Majo Shinpan, the already-infamous adventure game about examining young girls for evidence of witchery, seems to have gotten Japanese gamers' hearts beating. The preorder listing for DDMS is now the top-listed video game on Amazon.com's Japan store.
It's currently ahead of the Final Fantasy Tactics PSP remake, Vanillaware's rather delicious-looking Odin Sphere, and even Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. We have to admit, we're happy to see SNK experiencing such success, though it's weird that we think of SNK as underdogs now when they used to charge people $300+ for their games.
