I'm not sure what the association is between the color blue and the concept of death, but blue tends to be the color of choice when it comes to informing the player that something has gone terribly, terribly wrong in the game. Perhaps burnt sienna or turqoise just didn't have the clout to convey the severity of the situation, and red would only add to the player's fury. Have you ever encountered Animal Crossing's polite, but unceasingly blue screen of death? [Via Infendo]

I had this happen when I open my town gate, don't press anything, and don't plug in my DS to a power source.
This seems to be a timeout event. Mario Kart also disconnects if you idle for more than 30 seconds as well.

I've had this happen many times but would hardly call it a blue screen of death. It happens when the WiFi connection is lost which isn't a software issue.

I've had this happen several times while visiting a friends town. Turns out it was his internet connection lagging out that kept causing it.
ps - I was wondering why this photo was getting crazy hits on my flickr... linky linky linky...
