A DS Fanboy reader writes: "Hey guys... When pondering my potential wishlist for a DS's re-design, I started to think about the GBA slot. If there could be a significant reduction in the DS's overall size, would I be willing to sacrifice the GBA slot? To be honest, I like having the slot available, but ever since the DS has been blessed with quality games, I haven't fired up the cart I've got stuck in there."How many gamers would be willing to do without their GBA slot in order to streamline the DS?
[Thanks, Rappateng]

Keep the slot, I use it regularly for homebrew and emulation through my GBAMP. If it wasn't for Mario Kart, the GBA slot would see more use than the NDS card slot.
Like the others have said, maybe new brighter screens, better button layout, and longer battery life. But overall, I like my DS the way it is.

i can't get used to how the slant of the buttons is different on the ds than from the gba's. It makes it a lot more difficult to play the normal gba action games, and with the micro being so small, I still have to go back to my sp if I want to play some metroid or some megaman zero without having to worry about messing up because of button mashing.
So basically if they don't drop the gba slot from the redesign, I would really hope they changed the slope of the buttons to a more gba like style, If not I really wouldn't care if they dropped it or not.

I would love if they kept the current version and added a smaller one taht didn't have the GBA slot, and was possibly not quite as ruggedized. I'm not 7, and I won't drop it, you know ;)

You are all forgeting the most important game! Jam with the band! The GBA slot will add more/different instruments! Can't wait for the game! Keep it in, plus I only have the old GBA I hate having to play under a lamp to see the damn game!

The GBA slot was the first thing I pegged to go - it's one of the easier things to remove in order to create a slimmer DS. I don't think the games and accessories are all that important; the rumble isn't necessary (but could be built in, maybe) and the DS is standing on its own now, as far as games are concerned.

The only reason to get rid of the GBA slot for me is to reduce the risk of cracking my system, but since that happened because of my stupidity, it should stay IMO.
Communication tools, which they've been going into BTW, would need the GBA slot to put, lets say, a camera into. The other software could be put into the DS cart, and boom, along with wi-fi, you could have a nice web-cam thing, but then that could advocate porn...
Really though, my ideas aside, Nintendo probably has accessories besides just a rumble pak in mind. I mean, its Nintendo, the same dudes that released bongos for your GCN, a camera for your GB, a memory expansion for your N64, and a card reader for your GBA. Its almost heresay to not think Nintendo won't release some wacky, but neat (hopefully), accessories for the DS. All they really have to do anyway is shrink the video cards and processors a tad, making it more expensive, but then again, the SP and Micro were more expensive than the GBA.

I think that the GBA slot should be kept definately. They should also add support for GB/GBC games with the redesign. They should also add a way to stretch GB games to fit the entire screen, like with what they did with the GBA when it plays GB/GBC games.

NO WAY. Without the GBA slot, that means no homebrew. That means NO MOONSHELL, so no good videos, or mp3 playback.
That also means that any extensions they put in there, like the rumble pack, would be history as well. I'd rather they add the GBA port back in there than take the GBA slot away.
That idea is somewhat like what Sony did with their slim PS2...no hard drive support really sucks unless you want to solder 36 wires. No thanks.

Guys, what'd be better than having a rumble pak add on would to just put a rumble -in- the console itself. This would make for a very sleeker DS, and would attract the more self-conscious people.
Slimmer, sleeker, bigger screens = wonderful.
