Review slams Deep Labyrinth

Why not go with the title Unshallow Maze? We've been following one major RPG release for awhile, but the lesser-known Deep Labyrinth has not completely eluded our radar. As a part of this week's releases, 1up got ahold of the game and ran it through their rigorous review gauntlet, throwing traps at it and watching the utter look of shock and fear fall upon the game's face once it saw the vast fire pits and packs of ravenous badgers that inhabit said gauntlet.

Turns out that while one might expect the game to be victorious, perhaps even severing one of the badger's limbs to wear as some prize of conquest, the game instead only managed to barely escape with its life. It still won't talk about the incident, however 1up has no problem explaining the tragic events that took place inside that dangerous gauntlet. They even go on to compare it to King's Field, which is one of the most mediocre series of games in existence and even going so far as to be the worst game for the PSP.

Just based on your headline alone, I knew exactly what website you were gonna mention, and even who did the review. And surely enough, once I clicked the Read link, I didn't have to go any farther than the words "by Jememy Parish."

I don't know what games he's playing, but his expectations are always insanely high. It's not even worth reading his reviews most of the time.

I agree wholeheartedly with Probot.

I too knew, and even if this game is a stinker (or not, as I haven't seen any other reviews), it's from Atlus... and I've enjoyed tons of thier games, even the mediocre ones.

I'll wait for a real review.

The game's actually pretty good. I've been playing it for the past hour and a half. The controls are great, actually. It's fun stuff. The graphics aren't half bad... There's just not much done with them. The mice stand there, look funny with big hats, but they don't do much. But the controls work, the graphics work, and the story is there to justify beating stuff to death.

If you like dungeoneering, it's a worthy game. If you're not sure, try it out. If you hate them, don't bother. It's good stuff.

I looked at a review at RPGamer and they gave it 2/5, so this Jeremy Parish may actually be overrating the game.

Indeed! EGM rated it a 4.17 out of 10. I think this is hilarious because it's one of those games DSers pointed to for me to wait for in the future. Better luck next time.

Well 1up.com and EGM are basically the same thing as they are managed by the same ppl. I don't rely on either one for a fair review as I go for famitsu and gamerankings.com for more of a fair assesment of a game. Then I try the demo to see how that game fairs against my standards. I'll get this game once it drops to $15 or under!!!

All I can say about "Deep Labyrinth" is thank goodness I rented it instead of just buying it. The magic system is obnoxious (and picky -- I never could get the lines drawn just right), and the fighting system -- where you scribble on your DS's touch screen to use your sword -- is a pain in the butt. I didn't get very far because I got sick of this game really fast.
