One cooking game, it seems, was not enough -- Nintendo of Japan is bringing another kitchen assistant to the handheld, and this time it has a nifty accessory. Forget silicon protectors or oversized Ziploc bags, get a magnetic holder for your DS and stick it on the fridge out of splash-range. We're not sure if the accessory will be packaged in with the title, but it would make sense.
DS Kondate Zenshu, apparently a sequel to the earlier Cooking DS (not to be confused with Cooking Mama), contains over 1000 recipes and will include WiFi functionality. Looks like we better start those Japanese lessons ... if only someone would do something similar for an English audience!

My wife and I actually used a few of the recipes in "Shaberu DS Ryouri Navi", and they actually taste pretty good and are easy to make.
A lot of the stuff in "Ryouri Navi" is basic, Japanese Cooking 101-type that most (Japanese) people know how to make, but it's still a really useful reference. It's perfect for searching for recipes based on the ingredients you have.
I'm looking forward to "DS Kondate Zenshu" (which literally means DS Complete Recipe Guide) :)

And is there any indication of what the magnet can possibly do to your system?

As the DS contains no magnetic media I would guess that the magnet would do nothing to harm your DS...
OTOH...and as EXTREMELY unlikely as it may be... if the magnet were strong enough (like where the DS breaks apart when you try to pull it from the fridge) it might mess with the speakers... nothing to worry about, IMHO...
