During the Q3 2007 Preliminary Financial Results Conference Call for Activision, CEO Mike Griffiths has confirmed that Guitar Hero is headed to Nintendo platforms. Now, he doesn't confirm which platforms, instead choosing to be vague in his confirmation. Mike goes on to say "The key difference in our strategy versus the prior cycle, is that in addition to full support on Sony and Microsoft platforms, we will aggressively target the Nintendo platforms consistent with our multi-platform strategy and Nintendo's expected growth. In fiscal 2008, we will double our offerings on the DS and the Wii, including Spider-Man, Shrek, Transformers, and Guitar Hero."One would think that he meant Guitar Hero would be headed to the Wii and the DS would receive the company's other franchises, however it isn't beyond possibility. Look at Elite Beat Agents and tell us that Guitar Hero couldn't work in a similar fashion on Nintendo's handheld. It could work, right?

You could do a setup where you use the triggers to pick/whammy (or have a tilt sensor for whammy), and use the d-pad/buttons for the frets. Heck, if they don't try to jam stylus controls in there, you could do an even more intricate scheme where the D-Pad controls octave (up and down) and slides (left and right for up and down the string), and the de-pads are for frets... Up up to do that tough solo, down down to get back to the rhythm section afterward...
Then there's the opportunity for wireless multiplayer (two guitars and a bass... or three basses for Big Bottom!).
Maybe I'm a little too excited about this.

Lard of Dorkness, you need to get a copy of Daigasso! Band Brothers. It was supposed to come to the U.S. as "Jam With the Band," but it just never happened.
Anyway, the D-Pad and ABXY are your 8 notes. R goes an octave up, and L makes a note sharp. That gives you 32 available notes for a song. You have 8 player multiplayer over local wireless, and you all play different instruments, and it has a great selection of songs from Nintendo games, and popular J-Pop from anime, and for some reason it has "Smoke on the Water."
No knowledge of Japanese is necessary, unless you want to read how to use the song editor which lets you write your own full MIDI tracks to play with your friends. You could probably find a translation online though.

Awesome! I'll definitely pick that up when I get the chance to speak with the local import shop.
Oh, and Smoke On The Water is probably on the game because, apparently, Deep Purple was (and still is) really farking huge in Japan.
Thanks again!

Sex, DRUGS, and Rock 'n Roll!!
Well, don't know about the sex part, but ...
The DS version could be a peripheral to use with the main Wii version. On the DS, you use the touch-pen to cut up and organize your "white lines" on the touch-screen, and the built-in microphone for "snorting". Gameplay is affected by the amount you snort, with a moderate amount giving you extra energy and inspiration, while too much will cause you to lose control, and possibly OD.
You get extra points if you can acurately snort a line in the middle of a song without missing a beat.

I wouldn't mind if a DS Guitar Hero worked like DJ Max Portable, actually.

No. Guitar Hero would be retarded on the Nintendo DS... it's like playing DDR on a Gameboy color... or on a calculator! Wait... that's been done. I think Whistle Hero (using the built in mic) or even Something Along the lines of Super Flute Beatboxer would be better than a guitar hero on the ds.

I want to do this on the DS more than Guitar Hero.
