We love reading about gaming history. Gaming Target has posted a retrospective about one of the most influential series ever, and one that is especially resonant for Nintendo faithful: Pokémon. The article begins with background information on series creator Satoshi Tajiri, and then goes into fairly detailed analysis of not only games in the main series, but the merchandising phenomenon and spinoff titles as well. The article finishes with a preview of the upcoming Diamond and Pearl.
If you're like us and enjoy reading retrospectives, or if you just love Pokémon, then this article is a totally worthwhile read. We encourage you to let them show you it.

Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire were poorly timed for me, at the time my RPG itch was being scratched by PSO for GC, and i just passed on them
Now, with added Online and perfect timing (no better RPG's on DS or Wii for some time), they fit right into my schedule

I never really had a GBA so I passed on them. Now that I have a DS and can simply uplink the GBA pokemon into Diamond or Pearl, gotta catch em all.

I never really played the GBA iterations, how ever i hold fond memories of playing blue on my gameboy pocket as well as playing silver on my Gameboy colour. I have to admit I'm itching to play some Pokemon at the moment, So Diamond and Pearl can not come quick enough, Leaf green will have to satisfy me for now!

I've played all the versions but only managed to catch 'em all in Red/Blue. Maybe now with added online it will be easier to get special pokemon like mew and celebi.

I had the blue version when it first came out, not only that, but I managed to get every single pokemon, and even discovered a trading glitch that allowed you to copy pokemon. I also managed to catch and train up a level 255 mewtwo using the missingno glitch by using Amanda as the main character's name.
I got the red version later and used that game to properly execute the glitch to get Mew without the gameshark.
I had some serious fun with that first iteration... I'm not too into the latest series though. I've gotten tired of the 5 million different species that get less and less original, and the overused turn based system, and the limit of only 4 moves.
I want an MMO Pokemon game that actually allows you to control the pokemon in it's battle for real time battles. That way you can get some Anime style pokemon battles.
Oh well, I figure they'll eventually do something like that, then maybe I'll get back into the thing.

I'm not sure the author knows what he's talking about. According to his article, you can obtain multiples of your starter Pokemon because they appear in the wild just like any other Pokemon. And anyone who's ever touched a Pokemon game can tell that's complete and utter nonsense.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt (right, whatever) and kept reading, but when I hit more errors I just stopped.
Sorry, not so worthwhile for me.
