Our experiences with voice chat have been spotty at best. Unless the other user has a new DS headset ... highly unlikely ... the incoming audio can be very difficult to comprehend. Is this a feature you'd like to see implemented in more DS games, or do you think it's not even worth it? Is it even important to the gaming experience in general?

If your multiplay experience benefits from voice comms, like teaming up in a FPS game, then it's great to have and should be implemented.
It should NOT be exploited as a gimmick however, as it could discourage further development.

I have used the voice with and without the headset and it works just fine. I can comprehend everything the other person says and vice-versa.
Maybe something is wrong with your Wi-fi connection, because its flawless for me.

Doesn't Custom Robo Arena also have voice chat?

I like the voice chat features and haven't had any problems with spotty quality. I would love to see more games feature it, especially during gameplay.

I should add to my comment that I do not have a headset and only use the built-in microphone.

Well I own the headset and I love it. As for the quality being spotty I havent had a problem. I guess it depends on the connection and hardware you have. My quality has been crystal clear. Just like talking on a cellphone.

I've said it before, I'm saying it now and I'll keep saying it until SEGA gets their act together but:
Phantasy Star Online + Nintendo DS + Headset = Awesome.

I AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY WITH SAPHION!! PSOOOOO!!
I still can't believe how much of my life I wasted away with that game... but it was sooo GOOOOOOOOD.
I'd check out PSU but... don't have anything that can play it. (My PC sucks, too.)

Been using the included mic on the DS, no headset, no problems whatsoever in Pokemon.
I do need earphones though, my speakers are busted from too much Moonshell with overclocked speakers :P

I think it should be standard with *any* online game for the DS. I mean, why NOT have it if the DS is capable of it?

If you don't want fond memories of PSO spoiled, don't touch PSU with a barge pole.
It's dire, and the community is awful.
Well, in my opinion. But then I did play PSO for the best of 6 years...

Actually, there are FOUR games that utilize Voice Chat. Hunters, Diamond/Pearl, and Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2007.

Voice chat is fun, but i feel it is added on as a gimmick on too many games. Although i do welcome it, i just don't know if they make it enjoyable. EX.Pokemon d/p you can blow off leaves off you as a trap in the UG, i like that they thought of something new, but it just feels tacked on.

Yes, Downhill Jam definetly does have voice chat, and it works pretty decent too.

Make a Skype/business calendar/calculator/notepad cartidge with the headset as a pack-in at $29.99 and make us grown-up kids able to proudly carry our DS anywhere other than a long flight... under the guise of it being an awesome 'convergence' style gadget, which it would be. You know, one that can also play Trauma Center or Mario.
Using this thing as a Skype phone would be awesome!
