As if packing 500 characters, 300 mobile suits, and over 120 stages from 15 different Gundam series wasn't fan service enough, Bandai Namco plans to release a special edition DS Lite bundle with SD Gundam G Generation Cross Drive. The customized, crystal-white handheld will feature the same red branding seen on Amuro Ray's Rx-93 ν Gundam in the animated film, Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack. It's doubtful that the strategy-RPG game or the DS Lite will ever make it stateside, so interested parties will likely have to settle for importing when the title hits Japanese shelves this August 9th. The bundle's 21,840 yen price tag comes out to approximately $183, but expect to pay a premium if you're buying from an online shop. Head past the post break for a look at SD Gundam G Generation Cross Drive's packaging and screenshots.

It's such bullshit how ALL the special edition systems -never- make it to the states or any other country for that matter. And then the only way to get them is to pay a ridiculous price that's not even worth it.

When you think about it, do we, in North America, honestly need all these special editions? Besides that, there are more important forces at work.
First, Gundam is huge in Japan. I mean HUGE. It's a household name. You commonly see middle-aged people reminiscing about the first time they saw Char's Counterattack in theaters. From a business stand point, releasing this in Japan is alike to printing money. On this side of the pond, giant robots at war is a bit more of an exotic flavor. The demand is low, therefore the supply is low. In this case, the demand is so niche the supply is non-existent. American JRobot fanboys will not make you money.
The second and most important point is licensing and localization. Gundam is licensed by a certain distributor in NA and therefore the game will never be localized.
In conclusion, no Gundam DS Lite for you. IMO all the DS Lite SE have been rather unimpressive, this one included once you get past the novelty. It would have been worth it if they changed the coloring to match the nu Gundam itself. The pasted logo trend is pretty lame.
