If you're in the northern half of the world, did you notice that harvest moon last night? Wednesday the 26th marked the full moon nearest to the autumn equinox, and of course, it made us think of the franchise of the same name. What, you expected us not to make the connection with games? We're serious fans here. Geez. But are you? Of Harvest Moon, that is, and Rune Factory, as well. How do you feel about the franchise? We've noticed that it's usually one of those 100% things: people either love it or avoid it like the plague. How about you?

I personally really like Harvest Moon, at least the pure one. Rune Factory was a mess, in my opinion, and it wasn't that much fun. It was repetitive - and I know it's silly to complain about this on a farming game that essentially has you repeating tasks over and over -, but the difference is that in HM, I expect that. In Rune Factory, where the premise was DIFFERENT, I didn't expect it. It tried too hard to be an RPG, and failed miserably in my opinion. And before RPG fans hate me, don't bother: I actually host an RPG exclusive podcast, I love them. But this game was a mess.
So in the end, Yay for Harvest Moon, Nay for Rune Factory.
Oh, and Save the Homeland for PS2 was awesome. Just FYI.

I have played the GBA version *a lot*. However, I have never been able to really like the 3D incarnation (nor most 3D console games, for that matter) and I seem to have grown bored of the premise: run to take care of the animals in the morning, then run to harvest fully-grown stuff, then run to water everything, then run to fish, or run to the town square to catch the last hour of the day's festival. Lots of running for a game that I expected would relax me some. :-)
That said, I am totally psyched for the upcoming Puzzle de Harvest Moon, which rather feels like a game of "paquet voleur", as we call it here.
[Sorry for the French, I can't seem to find the name of this card game in English.]

I have played HM ever since SNES days. The series is unusual but that's why it is so good.

I've gotten into the HM series in a few installments on different consoles, but it never manages to keep my attention for all that long.
I seem to go from complete obsession with it to dropping it entirely in the course of a week or two.

I've only played the SNES Harvest Moon, but I loved it. Recently picked up Rune Factory, and am hoping it's as good as the reviews have been saying.

I came across the franchise about 8 or so years ago, and still love it. I picked up Rune Factory not too long ago, and even though the first stages of the game were kinda boring, and the controls are awkward, I really like it. It's a refreshing change from the other games.

I first played Harvest Moon on the GameBoy. I also got A Wonderful Life and Magical Melody for GC. And, of course I had to get Rune Factory DS, which is most definitely a great game. I enjoy them all for each of their differences.
