There's a considerable number of DS games out there that we cherish, but Super Dodgeball Brawlers and Bangai-O Spirits must rank amongst our greatest obsessions.
By a happy coincidence, both titles recently released within days of one another in Japan, so the next question is obvious: as the U.S. still has a couple of months to wait for these gems, did you buckle under the pressure and import either? If so, we'll be happy to place our extreme envy to one side for the time being, and listen to your impressions! We're nice like that, see.

With my little bit of Japanese literacy, I got both and am not regretting it!
For people thinking of importing and can't read a single hiragana, Bangai-O would be a better choice for you, as it's less text-heavy, and some of our friends at GameFAQs.com had already translated the whole script in tutorial mode.
Bangai-O Spirits is slightly different from the N64 version in some aspects. The N64 version was more of a story-based action game, whereas the DS one, a free-to-play puzzle+action game. Controls are obviously different, but I like the new controls too. Difficulty's much higher IMO, though.
On to Brawlers. If you can't read hiragana, it'll be painful navigating through the game. Menus are mostly written in hiragana, and only a few (if I remember correctly) occurances of kanji and katakana. However, if you only want the campaign mode and don't care that much about customising your Dream Team, just selecting the first options will bring you into the 'campaign mode'. The gameplay's not too far from the NES version, but it feels much harder (to me) to carry out special attacks.
As we all know, foul play is a major feature in this game. If used properly, you can turn the tables in a match. However, Objects and Foul-Play can be turned off before a match starts, if you want the old-school dodgeball experience.
My recommendations to people thinking of importing: Bangai-O's a better choice as you can get more out of it without knowledge of Japanese.

I've thought about importing Bangai-O. The problem is that I'd end up with 2 copies. I love this game so much that I need to support its US release.

I had a chance to get Bangai-O this past weekend at Anime Boston, but it got bought out from under me. :( Its ok though, since it was $60, which, even for a great game like Bangai-O, is a little overpriced.
