Four new Tales of the Tempest videos

Here is what you get from the four new Tales of the Tempest videos:

  • video número uno -- battle
  • video número dos -- battle
  • video número tres -- battle
  • video número cuatro -- town!

After careful speculation, we definitely understand the battle system. It can be explained as such -- while roaming around the world using the stylus to choose the direction your character wanders in, a random battle will start, then you, using the stylus, pick which baddie to attack. When the battle is won, there is a short animation showing off the winning team. Success!

The next contender in the Tales series from Namco, Tales of the Tempest is the first installment on the DS. If it is anything like Tales of Symphonia, we are certain to hear praise for it.

New characters revealed in Tales of the Tempest

There have been many a Tales game and the latest is as anxiously awaited as any other. As such, Famitsu recently revealed two new characters in the game that had yet to be introduced to the game-awaiting public at large. The first character revealed is Romi, a cleric tagging along with Lukius, she is of strong mind and does anything to get what she wants.

The other character is Albert Mueller, the leader of the Order of the Black Knights. Being in the Order of the Black Knights, it's odd to see Albert dressed entirely in white, which apparently is the norm for the entirety of the game. Also a strong individual with the sword, he finds himself unhappy with his position in the Order.

Look into the Tempest

Jeux France has some new screens from the upcoming RPG Tales of the Tempest, but there's some interesting criticism hidden in all that French. The included Babelfish link reveals that Famitsu rated the game only average (28/40) and basically indicated that it's only a bare step above "steaming pile of crap" on the funometer, citing clunky, polygon-rich graphics, poor AI, and uninspired gameplay. Well. Anyone need to borrow a pen to scratch this one off their list?

We've included a few of the screens after the jump so that you could judge for yourself, at least so far as the graphics go. The look is similar to Final Fantasy III but does appear to be a little more jagged and not quite as polished.

Fun fact: Babelfish translated the title to Bruise of the Tempest. That's good for at least one quick el-oh-el moment.

Release date for Tales of the Tempest

October 26 boys and girls. That is when you might want to consider importing Tales of the Tempest, Bandai-Namco's newest installment in the Tales series. A good opportunity to flex those Japanese speaking muscles right?

No doubt all the time spent on the game will make it well worth the years of waiting.

Since Japan already has a release date, maybe we could get one for the rest of us?

A Tales of the Tempest preview

Tales of the Tempest1up has posted a brief preview on Namco's forthcoming Tales of the Tempest, a new entry in their famed series designed specifically for Nintendo's portable powerhouse. Though it doesn't divulge as much information as we'd like (we'd like all of it, thank you), the article does confirm that the action RPG's battles will still be based on the Linear Motion System, a system where 3D characters move and fight in 2 dimensions. It'll also make use of the touch screen and, more importantly, the DS' Wi-Fi multiplayer capabilities. Since past Tales games have done so, we're hoping for some solid cooperative play to be incorporated.

The preview also goes into the storyline quite a bit, revealing a world populated by both humans and "Licanths", humanoids that can transform into powerful beasts. Naturally, the main character gets caught up in the growing tension between the two races and soon finds himself exploring the world and battling all sorts of snarling monsters. There may also be an ancient evil, a magical princess and seven sacred yams to be fought, rescued and collected (respectively), but let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

This dose of RPG goodness is currently set for a rather vague "2006" release.
