Follow the blog On Tour

When you're not cool enough to follow a real band around, you can hop on over to IGN and do the next best thing. The team from Vicarious Visions have started up a blog to share some of their hotel-smashing experiences with the readers as they went about creating the first portable iteration of the popular chick-magnet rhythm series -- Guitar Hero: On Tour.

The first entry chronicles some of the initial problems and questions the team faced, such as "Are we crazy?" and "Is this possible?". The above image is an example of some of the original prototypes that were developed, including the three-button design which was scrapped in favor of the current model. Go check it out!

Nintendo shifting focus to Wii development

While this might be cause for alarm, as nobody likes a young upstart to come in thinking they own the place, smaller dev teams for DS titles isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's not like Nintendo's new allocation of development resources is going to cut down on the great games available for the handheld, as third parties are doing a great job of bringing worthwhile experiences to the platform.

For all of you DS enthusiasts out there who think Nintendo's new sole focus will be projects for the Wii, don't fret. Just make sure you buy one whenever Nintendo gets around to making sure they're available on store shelves. You're going to want to download some demos for your DS anyway.

DS Daily: Heroes

No, we're not talking about the heroes you might be thinking of. We're talking about the heroes behind the heroes. The names and faces that make our games come alive. The visionaries, if you will.

Yesterday's unveiling of a release date and the official website for Flower, Sun and Rain inspired a chat amongst the staff about the game's creator, Goichi Suda. You see, around these parts, we simply can't get enough of Suda's work: the wildly imaginative concepts, that inimitable visual style. Hand on heart, Suda's mere involvement in a project means a sale to this blogger is more than likely. We only wish others felt the same way.

But what about you, reader? Is there a particular development guru you look up to? Are you more about Sakaguchi or Shiggy, Molyneux or Mizuguchi? And do you ever purchase a game solely because they played a part in its creation?

Bust some magic tricks on your DS

Nintendo announced Magic Taizen, yet another unique title in a line-up of incredibly creative games on the DS system. Tenyo, a distributor in Japan for magic tricks, was recruited by Nintendo to create the game. In the game, you'll be learning magic tricks, as well as performing them, through the DS. No longer will you have to carry around that live dove in your pants all day and can, instead, become a master magician like one Gob Bluth without the risk of bodily harm.
